The aim of the Research Skills Development Funding Scheme is to build research capacity within the Faculty by providing support for individual researchers or groups to develop or extend research skills and expertise in specific methodologies or theoretical approaches. The scheme is particularly relevant for Early Career Researchers, but also for more established or senior researchers seeking to add specialist skills in newly developed methodologies or to extend an existing profile of expertise. Research Skills Development Funding is applicable to training/workshops provided by external organisations, such as ACSPRI which offers a range of quantitative and qualitative methods workshops, at a range of levels of difficulty, at different locations over the year. Applications are also invited for in-house training/workshops organised by Faculty of Arts & Education academics or by the Research Office/other Faculties. Applications that include follow-on activities and on-going support via mentoring or collaborative work are encouraged. The Faculty will provide up to $2000 for individual applicants to attend externally organised training and up to $5000 for Faculty-organised training/workshops for a group of staff. The amount approved will depend on the scale and scope of the event. Funds may be requested for expenses that directly support the delivery of the training. For example: - contribution to travel and accommodation for external speakers/presenters or Faculty of Arts and Education academic staff to attend the training/workshop; - registration fee; - presenter’s fee. Research training and skills development represents an important investment in building research expertise amongst academic staff. In order to support worthy applications, it is anticipated that costs will be shared by the Faculty and the participant(s). Staff should consider this in preparing their applications. Applications for funding support should be submitted to the A/Dean(Research), and Lisa McLean, Faculty Liaison Officer – Research (cc to your Head of School), and will be checked by the A/Dean (Research) and reviewed by two members of the Research & Graduate Studies Committee. Informal consultations with the A/Dean (Research) prior to submission are encouraged. Please contact Lisa McLean if you have any questions about the format or budget. Selection will be based on: - identified need for the training/workshop; - expected research outcomes, including high quality HERDC recognised publications and creative works; - alignment with the CSU Research Narrative. Applicants who receive faculty support must be able to demonstrate effective use of these funds, and are reminded that school, faculty and CSU policies and approval processes apply to expenditure. A report on the outcomes must be submitted to the Faculty Research Liaison Officer on completion of the project. Forms are available on the Faculty Research Funding website.

For example:

- contribution to travel and accommodation for external speakers/presenters or Faculty of Arts and Education academic staff to attend the training/workshop;

- registration fee;

- presenter’s fee.

Selection will be based on: - identified need for the training/workshop; - expected research outcomes, including high quality HERDC recognised publications and

creative works; - alignment with the CSU Research Narrative.

Applicants who receive faculty support must be able to demonstrate effective use of these funds,

and are reminded that school, faculty and CSU policies and approval processes apply to

expenditure. A report on the outcomes must be submitted to the Faculty Research Liaison Officer

on completion of the project. Forms are available on the Faculty Research Funding website.
