MEMORIALTRIBUTE
Naomi Nao Hardy passed away on January the 16th, 2012, after a
short battle with lung cancer. Nao is survived by her husband of 45 years,
Jerry, her children Natalie and Jeffrey, and her grandchildren Benjamin
and Elizabeth.
Naomi was an accomplished writer. She published a mystery novel,
wrote humorous editorials for several newspapers and had her poetry
recognized in contests and magazines.
In 1999 she founded The Redmond Historical Society, and for more
than a decade she worked tirelessly to preserve, document and share the
history of Redmond. Since its inception, the organization has grown to
become one of the largest and most active civic organizations in the city.Nao wrote the book Redmond Reections: From Settlers to Software.
Nao will also be remembered for her wit, smarts, and collections. She
collected rocks, bears, tins, green glass, hats and much more. She was
an old soul who died too young.
Love you Mom ~ Natalie

The Society lost its founder and
Redmond lost its most passionate
citizen. Below are words written
by Naos family, followed on other
pages by reections from board
members and a proclamation issuedby the City.
Naomi did not wish to have a memorial service or funeral but the
Society will be celebrating her life at the February general meeting. The
family also notes that friends may give contributions in her name to the
Redmond Historical Society.

MEMORIALTRIBUTE reDmonD-iscinG abouT nao
She is the true history hero.
~ Judy Lang
Naomi was the epitome of the Power of One!!! She had this great
vision for a historical society and she gathered folks who shared that vision
-- she was persistent and resilient ... and most of all she loved Redmond.
~ Former Mayor Rosemarie Ives
She started us on our way as a historical society, and she has always
been a fountain of new and good ideas for our work. We will be following
up on her thoughts and plans for years to come.
~ John Phillips
When I think of Naomi, I think of a beautiful, delicate ower who
brings out the fragrance in others. There were a number of times when
she gave me credit for projects/accomplishments that actually we had
accomplished together. She was anything but selsh and self-serving.
~ Doris Schaible
You have persevered in all
directions and, in so doing, have left abrilliant legacy to your community. You
were able to show us how to proceed
no matter what. You have been ahead
of us the whole time. We have been
simply following you.
~ RHS President Chris Himes
Naomi had a great sense of
humor which she needed during those
crazy early days of RHS She put
her heart and soul into Redmond
Reections. The book stands as
a testament to her writing and
organizational skills. I miss her.

RHSNEWS We havea QuilT Winner!
Dan Waham, co-owner of Couzins Caf in Kirkland, was the
lucky one to have his ticket pulled out of hundreds by Mayor John
Marchione at our January meeting. Dan had lived in Redmond for
years, but recently moved to Woodinville and told us his quilt inspiration
came from his mom, who was an avid quilter!

2012 sTarTsWiThFour neW liFeTimers!
The recession has taken a toll on our nances (weve even had to
reduce ofce hours from ve days a week to three), so were especiallypleased to announce four major new contributors. Three are close to
home: Society President Chris Himes, Society Collections VP John
Phillips and his wife Roxie Phillips.
City Councilman John Stilin joins the quartet. Johns been very
active in Redmond, previously chairing the City Arts Commission and
volunteering at schools. John says he and his wife, Sherry, support
several historical societies. So we gured we need to make a stand forour home town group!
