Award News

RHI has been awarded a new contract for a Process Facilities Improvement Project in the West Qurna 1 field, located in southeast Iraq. The contract was awarded by the lead contractor on West Qurna 1 and is of a significant value.

The kick-off meeting was held on September 24–25, in Istanbul.

The project is strategic, for the improvement of production facilities at Degassing Station 7 (DS7) to enhance recovery at one of the major fields in the area. It will be completed in 32 months.

RHI has concluded a contract with our client, the Baikal Mining Company (BMC), for the construction of the Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant Facility. The first phase of the project is the production facility, with a capacity of 12.0 million tons of ore per year.

The document was signed by the General Director of BMC, Yury Ryabov, and the General Director of RHI Russia, Mikhail Ledovskikh.

In particular, RHI will build the production plant, including the concentrator and reagent preparation plant, the leach plant, and the crushing and conveyor facility. RHI will also manage the supply of equipment and materials for the facilities, the assembly of processing equipment, and precommissioning and commissioning operations.

RHI commenced preliminary work in April 2019, mobilizing equipment and a significant number of staff to the site. In September the company launched full-scale construction of the processing facilities.

The processing equipment will be supplied by Outotec, a leading company in process technologies for the mining, metallurgical, and chemical industries.

Completion of construction and assembly works is scheduled to take place in 2022.

Project Completion

RHI has successfully completed the world’s largest Gas-to-Gasoline (GTG) plant for State Concern Turkmengas, Turkmenistan’s state-owned gas company, headquartered in Ashgabat, together with our partner Kawasaki Heavy Industries, of Japan. The EPC contract was signed in August 2014 and the construction of the project took about four years, executed by an international team of about 7,000 people.

The GTG plant is located in the Ovadan-Depe area, on the north side of Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat. Kawasaki assumed responsibility for overall project supervision and control, plant engineering, and equipment supply. Kawasaki also cooperated with the Sojitz Corporation on project implementation.

The plant employs an advanced technology developed by Haldor Topsoe, a Danish company providing chemical process technologies and catalysts. It is the only plant of its kind worldwide that produces 600,000 tons annually of high-quality gasoline from natural gas.

At this plant, gasoline is produced from methanol synthesized from natural gas. The gasoline produced contains no heavy metals, so no toxic substances are emitted during its combustion. Moreover, because the gasoline is 100% chemically synthesized from natural gas, it contains only small amounts of sulfur and other impurities and thus meets strict environmental standards in countries around the world.

Enhancing Power

Within the scope of the continuing collaboration between Kazzinc, Glencore Technology, and RHI, we signed a contract for early contractor involvement in a hydropolymer hydrometallurgical project for the annual production of 60,000–70,000 tons of copper, zinc, and silver concentrates.

RHI, in collaboration with Kazzinc, is implementing advanced international techniques within the scope of the hydropolymer project, for purposes of project development and to estimate investment costs, in accordance with IACEE standards.

As a part of this work, a value engineering workshop was held to optimize the design approach and project costs.

Design institutes and partners of RHI — KazNIItech, Kazgiprotsvetmet, and Khimprom Engineering — all participated, along with representatives of the client, Glencore Technology, and RHI.

As a result of the two-day workshop, the design approach in 3D B/M models was discussed in detail and the optimal solutions were adopted.

The training of foremen, supervisors and managers in Occupational Health and Safety, as planned by RHI Headquarters HSE Department, was carried out by competent third party trainers at RHI Projects in 2019.

A total of 5,511 attendee hours of training was completed. Certificates were delivered to attendees under the titles of Hazard Hunting, Leadership in Occupational Health and Safety, and the British-accredited IOSH Managing Safely.
