AT REGAL SPRINGS TILAPIA, WE PROTECT AND IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT AT EVERY STEP. IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO, AND OUR BUSINESS DEPENDS ON IT. We care for the environment where our fish are raised. Our freshwater
lakes and reservoirs are beautiful and pristine, allowing us to produce
the best tilapia in the world for you.
The world is growing, and so is the world population’s demand for
protein sources. Aquaculture, or fish farming, done the Regal Springs
way helps meet that need while respecting our natural world.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT PRODUCING THE WORLD’S BEST TILAPIA
Myrtle Turnquist joined the Regal Springs group in 2012 and serves as Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer. She has lived and worked throughout Latin America, including Venezuela,
Argentina and Mexico. She is based in Minnesota (USA).
Myrtle is passionate about creating one integrated Regal Springs global team to
ensure the continuation of the group’s mission of producing premium tilapia while
building communities.
“I am continuously impressed by the aquaculture expertise in the group, and I am
inspired by the dedication shown by our employees,” she says. “We are learning that
we can achieve even more by working together as one global integrated operation.”
Myrtle believes in acting locally to improve global issues. One issue that is
important to her and to Regal Springs is water.
“The world already has all the water it will ever have, and we must take care of it,”
she says. Myrtle is becoming a Master Water Steward to be a leader for clean
water in her community.
The Regal Springs group balances business objectives and responsibility to the
communities where we live and work. Myrtle also believes in finding her own
balance of mind, body, heart and soul. She enjoys the challenges of the Regal
Springs business while not forgetting her top priority, her family.
“It is important to believe in something bigger than yourself,” she says. “At the
Regal Springs group, we believe this too. Working here is good for the soul.”

OUR COMMITMENT TO FAIR AND TRANSPARENT OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY IS ALL THE MORE SIGNIFICANT GIVEN CHALLENGING ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND POLITICAL CONDITIONS IN THE REGIONS WHERE WE FARM. IN ALL OUR COMMUNITIES, WE WORK TO RAISE LIVING STANDARDS, EXPECTATIONS FOR DEMOCRACY AND TRANSPARENCY—AND, ULTIMATELY, HOPE.
WHERE WE WORK
In Indonesia, our hatchery remains in
our original location, Wunut, a rural
volcanic landscape outside the famed
artistic city of Yogyakarta. Our farming
cages are in rural central Java lakes, with
a processing plant in urban Semarang, and
in the crater lake of Toba in northern
Sumatra, with a processing plant and feed
mill in Lubuk Naga, a rural shoreline
community outside of Medan. Both the
Semarang and Lubuk Naga processing
facilities will be expanded and completed
by spring 2014, increasing capacity and
cold storage.
We farm in rural areas, in stable ecosystems that we protect and sustain. We offer high-quality work opportunities based on our founder’s vision of respect for people and the environment.
In rural northwest Honduras, we farm in a natural lake, Lago Yojoa, the
largest lake in Honduras, and in a large
man-made reservoir, El Cajón, which feeds
a hydro-electric dam that prevents
flash-flooding and provides the valley with
a year-round, stable water source. Our
processing facility, hatchery and joint-
venture feed mill are in Borbotón. We have
administrative offices in San Pedro Sula.
In Mexico, we farm southwest of the city
of Villahermosa, in the municipality of
Ostuacán in the southern state of Chiapas.
Chiapas is a rural state known for its
agriculture and limited infrastructure.
We currently farm in Peñitas, a dammed
river, and in 2014 will expand into
Malpaso dam reservoir, immediately
upstream from Peñitas. Our processing
plant and hatchery is in Amacohite, with
the nearest community of Plan de Ayala.
Our rapid growth in Chiapas has created
an influx of workers to the area to
accommodate the labor demand.
Regal Springs has business offices in Winterthur, Switzerland, and Miramar and Bradenton, FL.

We operate carefully and frugally on the water. Our floating
cages use less than one percent of the surface area of the lakes
and reservoirs where we fish. Aquaculture also helps take
pressure off wild fish species in increasingly over-fished rivers,
lakes and oceans.
Our success depends on maintaining the health of the waters
where we operate. We work with our communities to prevent
deforestation that could result in land erosion, introducing
unhealthy levels of organic matter into the waters.
We also conduct extensive water monitoring at our on-site labs to
assure that our lakes and reservoirs remain healthy.
And we use all of our fish in environmentally sensitive ways. Fillets
and other prime cuts go to consumers, of course. In addition,
scales are used in the manufacture of cosmetics, skins are used
in gelatin production for pharmaceuticals and other skins are
transformed into a high-fashion alternative to leather.
At Regal Springs, all of our work supports our environment. We
protect the world so we can produce the world’s best tilapia.
Water: In Honduras, we partner with an environmental group
to protect five freshwater springs that provide safe water for the
villages where our people live and work.
Energy: We will install solar panels for 35 communities in
Honduras in 2014, providing an efficient and renewable source
of electricity for schools, which have no power.
Jobs: In Java, Indonesia, we pay rice farmers to raise our
tilapia fingerlings for a time. The fingerlings grow strong and the
rice farmers earn a steady, year-round income.
Health: We provide exams, dental and vision checkups,
nutritional supplements and basic medicine to people in our
remote villages in Mexico where healthcare resources are few.
WE SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE PEOPLE WHERE WE WORK
