Over the past 6 months it has been a struggle to choose the student or students to showcase. As you begin to prepare for this school term, keep this section in mind and nominate a student to be nominate a student to be featured. The only requirement is that you write why he or she should be featured. You do not have to be a teacher to submit a student, you can be another student, parent, be another student, parent, counselor, pricipal, sibling, church member, etc.

Since starting this magazine, I have wanted to give the youth a voice. Because of their age, they are often looked-over or not treated with common respect. Over the course of 6 months, I have come across some of the most poignant, opinionated young people I have ever met.young people I have ever met. They are a filled with so much talent, they yearn for acceptance, and so many questions and issues. I felt I owed it to them to give them a place where they can talk and get answers and guidance without being judged. I was approached to provide an advice approached to provide an advice column just for kids, and Ask Marie was born. There are so many kids dealing with sexuality and identity issues that I felt my research in bibliotherapy would be a perfect place to start. A very ambitious and determined young lady set up a determined young lady set up a meeting with me to negotiate for her own art showcase, and I obliged. Simply out, you ask, I answer.

Special Columns

This section of the magazine came as an accident. I wanted to showcase models but had no clue how or what I would call it. I asked my friend, the breathtaking Jessica Ashmore, if she would do it. It was maybe 10-15 hours before the debut of the magazine, before the debut of the magazine, and we were texting the questions and answers back and forth! At the end of the conversation, I said, “Thanks for the miniature-interview!” That is when the name clicked, mini vieview.

Each month it becomes harder and harder to fill this section of the magazine. There are not enough people you take modeling serious enough. And by serious I mean contacting me to be featured or marketing themselves as a model. So this is your shot, if you are So this is your shot, if you are interested in modeling and would like to be featured in this section send an email to: [email protected].

Hooks & Verses and Outside the Booth are the music versions of Mini View. If you are a producer your work goes on “outside the booth” and if you are an artist, your songs have hooks and verses. In the MiniMini View, you have “quickies” (like a quick change) and “not so quickies” (complete head to toe rework). In Outside the Booth, the root of producing hangs on hi hats and 808s for artists; it’s 8’s and 1616’s. This sounds cool and catchy, and it may seem like a lot of effort went into this concept...WRONG! The names and questions were thought up in a few minutes right before the interviews with S.L and Sci-Fi.Sci-Fi. TeeJay, the writer behind the interviews and iCSC’s frontman and CEO, Pdot AL (P. AL) bounced these ideas off one another the day of the meetings.

Last but certainly not least there is the cover story. This is the heart and soul of Alias Roosee. It is often a “chicken and the egg” relationship between the month’s theme and the cover article. I find myself wondering, “Did I come up with the theme first or did I select the cover story first?” Regardless of how it cover story first?” Regardless of how it comes together I am always proud of the results. Each cover story has broadened my views on so many levels. I have sat down with some of the Who’s Who in the local hip hop scene. I have even sat down with community leaders.
