Design process before BIM • We use our in house technical department to co-ordinate a team
of external consultants. Architect ,Structural Engineer, M+E specialist.
• Designs carried out in 2D using AutoCad, Vector Works, Micro Station.
• Design, specification, schedule and procurement are separate operations
• 2D drawings are used to prepare interpretive marketing material • All consultants share information via a web based data storage
system

Tweed House • A development of 115 apartments within a 13 storey tower • Located in Bow, adjacent to Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach • We were given a two year design and build programme with an
end date driven by grant funding requirements for the social housing element of the scheme
• The structure is a concrete frame on a piled foundation • The building is clad with brickwork and Carea panels • There are complex balcony and glass walling details that
complicate the elevations from a design co-ordination perspective.

Design process Tweed House • We knew of the Government proposal to adopt the BIM process
for the design and procurement of public projects and that Architects and professionals we knew were all talking of “trying out “ the process so as not to be left behind once the principle became more the norm.
• For the same reasons we took the decision to employ a design team familiar to the process and to design Tweed House as a model and to take the BIM process as far as we could with our limited knowledge and experience.
