Connecting your laptop to the Sympodium

You can run your presentation programs off of your personal laptop

Connect the podium cables and cords to the laptop before you start up the Sympodium system

Your laptop should be turned off when you are connecting the cables and cords

The Sympodium has 4 laptop connectors: Electric power cord Video monitor plug Network plug Audio plug

Let’s look at where you connect these to your laptop

Your laptop should have ports for power, video monitor, Ethernet cable, and audio speakers…everything that you will need for a presentation

In this example, using a Dell laptop, the following ports are at the rear of the computer: Power port Video monitor port Network port

Let’s look at these ports more closely

Power port (notice the diagram below the port)

Plug your adapter cords in here and into the electric power plug at the back of the podium

Video monitor port Fit the 15-pin plug into this

inlet according to the shape and tighten the two side screws

Ethernet network port In this example, the flexible

clip should face the top of the port when you plug it in

symbol of headphones On a Dell laptop, this port is

often on the side

To wed your laptop to the Sympodium, the procedure is as follows:1. Plug the 4 cables from the

Sympodium into the laptop, in the order shown: Electric power Video monitor Network connection Audio connection

2. Log into the control computer; the XPanel Touch Screen of the Sympodium will automatically appear

3. Select the “Power On” icon to automatically lower the projector screen and turn on audio and multimedia functions

The power-on process takes about a minute

4. Turn on your laptop

5. Select the “Laptop” icon on the XPanel Touch Screen; the screen will indicate that the laptop can now display on the projector

6. Use the XPanel Touch Screen controls to modulate the audio and other features of your laptop

The Volume bar will indicate the sound level

You are now ready to display your presentation from your laptop

That which is displayed on your laptop monitor will now be displayed on the projector screen

Shut down Instructions

Disconnecting your laptop

When you have completed your presentation, you will disconnect your laptop in reverse order

First of all, exit your presentation and shut down your laptop

Then select the “Podium Computer” icon on the XPanel Touch Screen; the screen will then indicate that the podium desktop can now display on the projector

Unplug the 4 cables of the Sympodium from the laptop, in the order shown: Audio connection Network connection Video monitor Electric power

Put away your laptop and adapter

Disconnecting your laptop (3/5)

Select the “Power Off” icon on the XPanel Touch Screen

Select the “Yes” button on the pop up window

It will take a minute or so for the Sympodium to power down; the projection screen will automatically be drawn back up into the ceiling unit, and audio and multimedia functions will be curtailed

Exit out of the XPanel and smart panel

Exit the browser

Disconnecting your laptop (5/5)

Log off of the Sympodium computer

DO NOT turn off the Sympodium computer

Make sure you have all of your laptop accessories before you leave the room
