MANHASSETGARBAGE DISTRICTYARD WASTE AND RECYCLING SCHEDULE2014-2015The Town of North Hempstead Recycling Ordinance mandates the separate collection of glass, metal and plastic containers, newspapers, magazines, bulk mail, and yard waste. All recyclables must be at the curb line the night before the scheduled collection day. Recyclables will be collected every week.

YARD WASTE COLLECTIONSCHEDULE 2014-2015The Town of North Hempstead requires a separate collection of yard waste from April 1st through December 15th.

The following is the pickup schedule for yard waste: - If your regular garbage service days fall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, your yard waste will be collected on Monday. - If your regular garbage service days fall on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, your yard waste will be collected on Tuesday.

SPECIAL XMAS TREE COLLECTIONThis year we will be collecting Xmas trees for compost on the 2nd and 8th of January. Please have your Xmas tree out on the curb the night before.

RECYCLING SCHEDULE 2014-2015NEWSPAPER, BULK/JUNK MAIL, MAGAZINES, CATALOGUES, PAPER-BACK BOOKS, CONSTRUCTION PAPER, INDEX CARDS, GREETING CARDS, PHONE BOOKS, ENVELOPES (without plastic windows) and WRAPPING PAPER (Non-Metallic): Tied and bundled or in brown paper bags, DO NOT wrap in plastic bags.BOTTLES & CANS: Glass, Plastic, Aluminum, Metal; we will also collect alumi-num foil, pie tins and old pots & pans which are washed, clean and in Recy-cling Container.

Garbage shall be stored in closed leakproof metal or plastic cans at the rear side yard location outside the premises. No collections will be made inside the house or garage. During periods of snow, the resident is required to provide a clear path to the location. A maximum of three (3), thirty-two (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected each collection day.

2. Rubbish - Waste generated from the normal mainte-nance of the household other than kitchen waste, yard waste and recyclables. This may include scrap lumber, wall board, plaster, indoor tiles or materials from the cleanup of an attic, garage or closets. Such materials are to be stored in closed containers when pos-sible and are to be placed at the curb for collection. A maximum of two (2) thirty-two gallon (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected once per week: Wednesday, or Thursday, whichever is your normal collection day. Large items - These wastes generally include appliances and furniture, such as chairs, tables, sofas, box springs and mattresses, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, carpeting, etc. The Town contract provides for the collection of one (1) large item per week. The resident desiring the removal of a large item must call Dejana Industries for scheduling. Large items must be placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day. All doors to refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, etc. must be removed as a safety precau-tion. Carpeting should be cut into not more than four foot (4’) lengths, rolled and securely tied for handling purposes and placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day.

3. Recyclables - Newspapers, magazines and bulk mail are to be securely tied or placed in a paper bag. Glass, metal and plastic containers are to be put in the recycling container.

In the month of April and from the last week of October to the second week of December, the maximum number of yard waste bags per collection is 12. At all other times the maximum number is 3 bags of yard waste. Yard waste will be collected on a weekly basis. If your regular garbage service days fall on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, your yard waste will be collected every Wednesday. If your regular garbage service days fall on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, your yard waste will be collected every Wednesday. Yard waste must be placed at the curb line for collection the night before the designated collection day. ALL YARD WASTE MUST BE PLACED IN SUITABLE CONTAINERS; CANS, BAGS OR EQUIVALENT.

5. Non-Residential Properties - Refuse collection (in cans) is available in quantities provided for by THE TOWN OF NORTH HEMPSTEAD in the contract for this district. Please call either Dejana or the Town at 311 (outside Nassau County dial (516) 869-6311) for details.

II. Time of Collection All collections in the Town are to be made between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. No collections will be made on Sundays and most legal holidays except where noted on the collection calendar.

III. Excluded ItemsThe following items are considered to be excluded from all collections:1. Hazardous waste, volatile materials, propane tanks, gas tanks, bricks, asphalt, concrete, granite, and all other stone and stoneware, lime, asbestos, automobile parts (engines, transmissions, auto body parts, etc), pipes, paint cans with liquid, infectious and/or biological waste, logs or wood longer then 4’ and larger then 3” in diameter, chain link fence, cables, scrap lumber or other debris resulting from contract work.2. Also excluded are large amounts of rubbish generated by any accumulated clean up or residential moving operation which will be considered the same as contractors’ materials.

A maximum of two (2) thirty-two gallon (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected once per week: Wednesday, or Thursday, whichever is your normal collection day. Large items - These wastes generally include appliances and furniture, such as chairs, tables, sofas, box springs and mattresses, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, carpeting, etc. The Town contract provides for the collection of one (1) large item per week. The resident desiring the removal of a large item must call Dejana Industries for scheduling. Large items must be placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day. All doors to refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, etc. must be removed as a safety precaution. Carpeting should be cut into not more than four foot (4’) lengths, rolled and securely tied for handling purposes and placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day.

This may include scrap lumber, wall board, plaster, indoor tiles or materials from the cleanup of an attic, garage or closets. Such materials are to be stored in closed containers when possible and are to be placed at the curb for collection. A maximum of two (2) thirty-two gallon (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected once per week: Wednesday, or Thursday, whichever is your normal collection day. Large items - These wastes generally include appliances and furniture, such as chairs, tables, sofas, box springs and mattresses, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, carpeting, etc. The Town contract provides for the collection of one (1) large item per week. The resident desiring the removal of a large item must call Dejana Industries for scheduling. Large items must be placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day. All doors to refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, etc. must be removed as a safety precaution. Carpeting should be cut into not more than four foot (4’) lengths, rolled and securely tied for handling purposes and placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day.

3. Recyclables - Newspapers, magazines and bulk mail are to be securely tied or placed in a paper bag. Glass, metal and plastic containers are to be put in the recycling container. All recyclables must be placed at the curb for collection in containers provided by the Town of North Hempstead.

4. Yard Waste - Yard waste is compostable material generated from the maintenance of the yard. Yard waste includes: grass, leaves, hedge clippings, and tree limbs. Hedge clippings and tree limbs should be securely tied in bundles not more then four feet (4’) in length and not weighing more than 50 pounds. Garbage shall be stored in closed leakproof metal or plastic cans at the rear side yard location outside the premises. No collections will be made inside the house or garage. During periods of snow, the resident is required to provide a clear path to the location. A maximum of three (3), thirty-two (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected each collection day.

2. Rubbish - Waste generated from the normal maintenance of the household other than kitchen waste, yard waste and recyclables. This may include scrap lumber, wall board, plaster, indoor tiles or materials from the cleanup of an attic, garage or closets. Such materials are to be stored in closed containers when possible and are to be placed at the curb for collection. A maximum of two (2) thirty-two gallon (32) gallon cans or the equivalent, weighing no more than fifty (50) pounds per can, will be collected once per week: Wednesday, or Thursday, whichever is your normal collection day. Large items - These wastes generally include appliances and furniture, such as chairs, tables, sofas, box springs and mattresses, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, carpeting, etc. The Town contract provides for the collection of one (1) large item per week. The resident desiring the removal of a large item must call Dejana Industries for scheduling. Large items must be placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day. All doors to refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, etc. must be removed as a safety precaution. Carpeting should be cut into not more than four foot (4’) lengths, rolled and securely tied for handling purposes and placed at the curb the night before the designated collection day.
