Making an educated
guess based on your schema and
textual clues!
Mythology and AdvertisingCompanies use places, people, and events from
mythology to sell their products.
They hope you will use your schema about Greek
mythology and their ad to infer good things
about the product or company.
Let’s look at an example.
Apollo TheaterBackground Knowledge:• I know Apollo is the God of music.
I have been to music concerts at theaters.
Text Clues:• The marquee says Apollo is a
world famous theater.
Inference: • Apollo Theater must have
amazing music concerts because Apollo is the God of music.
