The Sony KDL46EX645 is basically a 46-inch LED HDTV

released by Sony which is not different from the previous EX

series last year. The bezel of this model is metallic while at the

same time features a speckled finish that exudes a classic and

trendy look. As for the stand of this TV, it is the standard black

rectangle while at the same time features a base the swivels. The

remote control is similar to the standard model but has the SEN

(Sony Entertainment Network) button right over the direction

pad. The menu system is quite different from other high-end models.

The Sony KDL46EX645 is basically an edge-lit LED TV that apparently lacks the local dimming feature, but it is

equipped with the MotionFlow XR 240 engine by Sony. This might give a notion to buyers that it is a 240 Hz TV,

but the refresh rate is actually 120Hz. The Sony KDL46EX645 lacks the 3D playback. As a Smart TV, it has the

XMB interface that is only present on high-end TVs. The apps are easily accessible on the Menu page and no

longer require starting a new interface. From there, there is accessibility to Hulu, Amazon Instant and Netflix. In

terms of the picture settings, the Sony KDL46EX645 provide a great variety of picture configurations, even

though the Scene settings are separate, they are somewhat deeply set on the menus. As for the connectivity, Sony

KDL46EX645 offers decent connections such as the four HDMI outputs, single component, two composite ports

and two USB inputs. The online connectivity is provided with the onboard Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

The good points with the Sony KDL46EX645 is that it is one of the affordable TV models that is capable of

providing suitable black levels and color saturation that are well worth the cost. The design of the TV is quite

attractive while the menu system is relatively easy to use. As for the drawback with the Sony KDL46EX645, there

are some consistency issues while black areas appear blue under the lights. Additionally, the shadow detail is not

good enough. The SEN part of the Smart TV interface works in a slow manner.

In case you are planning to purchase a TV, it is best to purchase the mid-range models instead of the high-end

models. The Sony KDL46EX645 provides better picture quality than the high-end models. Aside from that, it has

a classy design and textured finish for a mid-range model.
