New Literature

To support SenTRI customers, a new Analogue Addressable sales brochure has been created to present all three systems in one complete brochure. We have also written a piece which supports SenTRI in the topical discussion area of system protocol. Both pieces of literature are available from our fulfilment store.

Manufacturing success

Our manufacturing site at Leicester has gone through a number of major improvements since 2008 and methods have changed radically since that time. All UK brands are now manufactured at Leicester including SMS, Gent, Bardic, Morley and Notifier.

Honeywell employs a standard operating system (HOS) across all its worldwide plants. Each plant is certified based on achieving and then sustaining a minimum level of performance against the HOS. Our Leicester plant has been awarded Bronze status and given our continued strive for improvement, is working to improve our status to Silver early in 2012.

We are very proud of our manufacturing capability and welcome all Customers to come along and have a look at what we have been doing. You never know, some of the Honeywell ideas may be of benefit to your own organisation.

SMS have launched a new Aspirating range. The SMS range of air sampling smoke detection systems (ASSD) comprises of three detector units providing comprehensive solutions for a wide range of applications. ASSD are smoke detectors that actively take air samples from the monitored area and analyse them for the presence of smoke particles. This active sampling technology enables the identification of a possible fire in its very earliest stages. Speak to your Business Manager for more information.

SMS has successfully upgraded the SenTRI product range to comply with the introduction of BS7273 Part 4. The system now provides fail safe operation for all types of door release mechanisms in the event of a system failure at the fire alarm control panel.

BS7273 Part 4 2007 is the code of practice for the actuation of release of mechanisms for doors. Recommendations in the standard are based around the release of mechanisms as fail safe for a number of system faults as well as fire conditions.

Typically, doors have released from fire alarm systems normally closed contacts operating in a fire or open circuit fail safe condition. Under the application of the standard, that level of fail safe is no longer deemed broad enough and a significant number of additional fail safe conditions have been applied.

On top of that, there are 3 categories that should be considered and applied during the risk assessment and at the design stage. New system critical paths have resulted in a number of changes being made to our products, most notably the control panels and Mains Powered Interface range, both of which have increased levels of fail safe protection. Detector spacing under BS5839 Part 1 is also considered in the standard.

SMS SenTRI system products are developed and improved in harmony with one another, hence the system products are in compliance with the requirements of the standard. To find out more, please contact your Business Manager, who will be pleased to visit and present the finer details on the requirements, how they affect you and your customers and how we comply.
