INTRODUCTION• Objective: To find the surface area of a pyramid and cone. To find the volume of a prism and the cylinder.

• Essential Question: How do you find the surface area of a pyramid? What is needed to calculate the lateral and surface areas of a cone? Why do we measure the volume of a prism or a cylinder?

A pyramid is a polyhedron in which one face can be an polygon and the other faces are triangles that meet at a common vertex.

A regular pyramid is a pyramid whose base is a regular polygon and whose lateral faces are congruent isosceles triangles.

Volume is the space that a figure occupies. The volume V of a cube is the cube of the length of its edge e, or V = e3.

Cavalier’s Principle: If two space figures have the same height and the same cross-sectional area at every level, then they have the same volume.
