• 2010 Atlantic Basin 19 named storms formed – tied with 1887 and 1995 for third highest on record.
• 12 developed into hurricanes – tied with 1969 for second highest on record.
• Five major hurricane status .

EarthquakesHaiti, January 12, 2010• 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck close to the Haitian
capital Port au Prince on January 12th, 2010, at 16:53 local time.
• The worst earthquake to hit Haiti in 200 years – estimated 230,000 deaths and over 300,000 injured. Over 1.5 million people in need of shelter.
• A tsunami watch issued for surrounding Participating States.

Haiti
LandslidesDominica - Monday, May 25, 2010 • At approximately 8.45 am, a landslide occurred in San
Sauveur, Dominica following heavy rains overnight – 3 deaths.
Saint Lucia • Landslides following Hurricane Tomas in Saint Lucia
kills 7 • Bridges and portions of roadways completely washed
away (North/South).Suriname • Landslide in (Sipaliwini district) killed 7 on Saturday

Severe Weather Events• Heavy rains, flooding and high seas were
reported in a number of CDEMA PS throughout the year. Most notable was the September 25 to October 7, 2010 period: – Antigua & Barbuda, – Jamaica, – St Kitts & Nevis, – Saint Lucia and – Virgin Islands

Droughts• Critical stage between January and March 2010 - the
following countries were on Drought Alert and implemented measures to curtail its effects: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago..

CholeraHaiti• Almost 92,000 reported cases as of December 3• 2,071 deaths. • 43,243 of patients have been hospitalized due to
cholera. • The in-hospital case fatality rate for the whole
country is 3.3%.

FireGuyana• May 10, 2010 a fire destroyed the oldest wing of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Georgetown, Guyana.
The Bahamas• Monday, March 29th, 2010, a severe weather
system moved into the extreme northwestern Bahamas from the coast of Florida with strong thunderstorm and tornadic activities. 3 deaths.

Montserrat• Activity increased significantly through the
period February 5-12, 2010 at the Soufriere Hills Volcano with two volcanic explosions and a partial dome collapse.
