Babies Blessed – 11:30 AM
“To all those who enter here: Be thoughtful, be silent, be reverent. Before the service, speak
to God. During the service, let God speak to you. After the service, speak to others.

Call to Worship UdoOnwachi
Leader: Dear God, on this 66th Men’s Day Celebration, we give You thanks for men
of faith.
People: We thank You for men like Abraham, who take You at your
Word and trust You enough to follow your lead. We thank You
for men like Joshua, who will trust you even when they find
themselves outnumbered.
Leader: In this hour of worship, we give You thanks for ancestors who encourage us to
fight on.
People: We praise You for men like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Medgar
Evers, who speak truth to power and trust you for the outcome. We
praise You for men like Nelson Mandela, who fought a good fight,
finished the course, and kept the faith.
Leader: In this hour of prayer, we call the names of our sons and brothers who
stand in the need of prayer.
People: We stand as intercessors for black boys, men, and families
challenged by the evils of a school-to-prison pipeline,
targeted policing, and mass incarceration.
All: God of light and life, ignite our passion for justice and restore our faith as
we stand ready to face the living of these days. Amen.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Thank you to everyone who supported the $3.0 in 24MO! Campaign and to those who attended the reception. This two year campaign officially ended
on October 31, 2016. To date, the campaign allowed us to pay for the cost of nearly two of the five floors. Your generosity has been overwhelming.
As you can see, we still have a way to go. For those who have not completed their pledge, we want
you to continue your payments even though the campaign has ended from an accounting point of view. All of your future payments will be noted to your pledge. We ask you to continue to support
AbyWest. New initiatives will roll out soon as we continue to forge ahead to reach our goal of $8MM to complete the entire five floor community center.
We continue to strive to attain 100% participation because we want others to know our
membership is committed to this effort. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2018 FALL SERIES
GOD’S LEADING LADIES – Speaking Words of Godly Instruction Tue. 10/16 - 7 PM -8:30 PM - 1st Fl. Conf. Rm. | Rev. Pamela D. Mason, Instructor
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:… Romans 1:16a KJV. Evangelism is an
essential part of our faith walk. 1 Peter 3:15a states, “Always be prepared to give an
answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have…” The
Samaritan woman at the well was not afraid to evangelize to her gentile community
about the time she spent with Jesus face to face. We, therefore, must learn to do the
same. This on-going women’s study is designed to assist you in finding your voice
when engaged in a dialogue with those who want to know about the love of Christ.
Participants are given scriptures to evaluate before working through case studies that
contain questions about salvation, faith, transformation, suffering and strength. While
others are using the scriptures to tear down, learn how to engage the scriptures to
build hope and restoration for those yearning for the truth.
BROKEN CRAYONS STILL COLOR Tue. 10/30, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20 |7 PM – 8:30 PM - Vestry
Tue. 11/27, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18 |7 PM – 8 PM Mobile Devices|Rev. Pamela D. Mason, Instructor
As Christians, we learn to color the events in our lives with the understanding that
between the lines of joy and fulfillment there will be landmines of sorrow along the
pathway. Christ said, “…In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have
overcome the world” John 16:33b KJV. But, what does this mean when confronting the
giants of life. This course is one step that places emphasis on repairing what was
broken, restoring what was lost and helping individuals to rise beyond the pain of past
circumstances into a deeper relationship with God, family, community and self.
BIBLE QUEST
The focus for October is on the Book of Luke. Strengthen your awareness of
biblical facts by responding to as many questions as possible before checking the
Abyssinian website http://abyssinian.org/ministry/christian-education/abyssinian-
institute-for-christian-education/ for the correct Bible references to the questions.
Be intentional about taking time to center yourself daily, as you read the entire
chapter where the answers are found.
1) To whom did the Angel Gabriel foretell the birth of John the Baptist?
2) For how many days after the Feast of the Passover did Mary and Joseph
search for Jesus in Jerusalem, once they realized he was not among their
friends and relatives returning home?
3) Who was the tax collector to whom Jesus said, “Follow me,” and who later
held a banquet at his home for Jesus?
4) Where did Jesus spend the night before choosing the 12 apostles?
