Revelation 22:1-7

Revelation 22:1-7 (NLT)

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations.

3 No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. 4 And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. 5 And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever.

6 Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.”

7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.”

TODAY WE LEAP INTO THE STORIES THAT COMPRISE THE STORY

It all began so beautifully…the creation of so much ‘It was Good’ stuff.

An orderly universe of symmetry and predictability.

Perfect people in a perfect place.

But something went horribly wrong…the cake was destroyed!

THE BOOK OF REVELATION, AS HARD TO UNDERSTAND AS IT IS, HELPS US SEE A NEW AND EVEN BETTER CAKE

The chaos of early Genesis chapters is reversed.

Man is back in the garden.

No more curse…no more fence around the Tree

Residents are back to walking with God.

No more sorrow, fear, Devil or farewells.

REVELATION IS THE GRAND CONCLUSION TO THE STORY OF A WORLD GONE WAYWARD

God sends a rescuer to a world otherwise hopelessly lost.

Repentant Prodigals end up back home.

NOW WE LOOK AT HOW TO USE THE CAKE’S INGREDIENTS

To build forever relationships

To live with hope and vision

To cooperate with God in living lives of love.

WITH THE SECURITY OF A GLAD ENDING, WE CAN IMMERSE OURSELVES IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD

No matter how hopeless the world can appear.

No matter what enticements may distract us.

No matter what!
