We often hear the refrain of, “I need more balance in my life.” I need to balance my family
and my career. I need to eat a more balanced diet. My priorities need to be balanced. To
pull off the feat of any metaphorical balancing act is akin to walking a tightrope through
the awe and admiration we give to those who can pull it off. We think of having balan-
ce in our lives as a state of enlightenment, of nirvana to be reached. Once we find the
balance between disparate parts of our lives, peace and productivity are not far behind.
So how can we achieve a sense of balance not only in solitary feats, but as a constant
in our everyday lives?

In balancing, you must be aware of where your legs
and arms are in relation to each other as a basic
first step. Then you will begin to notice how the
position of your feet influences the position of your
quadriceps, how the position of your legs relates to

habits of proprioception, a balance board has a

legs, glutes, and core. You can also do slow lunge
repetitions with either your front or back foot on
the board depending on the area you are targeting.

variation of planking.
