Among the survivors was Takashi Nagai, a pioneer in radiology research and a convert to the Catholic Faith. Living in the rubble of the ruined city and suffering from leukemia caused by over-exposure to radiation, Nagai lived out the remainder of his remarkable life by bringing physical and spiritual healing to his war-weary people. A Song for Nagasaki tells the moving story of this extraordinary man…. It reveals the inspiring story of Nagai's remarkable spiritual journey from Shintoism to atheism to Catholicism... [T]he biography traces Nagai's spiritual quest as he studied medicine at Nagasaki University, served as a medic with the Japanese army during its occupation of Manchuria, and returned to Nagasaki to dedicate himself to the science of radiology. The historic Catholic district of the city, where Nagai became a Catholic and began a family, was ground zero for the atomic bomb. The bomb disaster killed thousands, including Nagai's beloved wife. In the aftermath, Nagai, then Dean of Radiology at Nagasaki University, threw himself into service to the countless victims of the bomb explosion, even though it meant deadly exposure to the radiation, which eventually would cause his own in death... Announcements

St. Joseph Parish/Finance Council will meet after Mass

on Sunday, August 11. Please mark your calendars.

Help us at St. Joseph Catholic Church in planning for

the upcoming year. We are gauging interest in

whether or not people would be interested in learning

more about the Catholic faith, becoming Catholic, or

already a practicing Catholic and would like to re-learn

the basics. SERIOUS inquiries only. From these results

will allow us how much material to order and what

curriculum to purchase. Classes would run from Sept-

April, approximately 20 classes. Classes would be held

in the Parish Hall, 308 Pearl St. Please let us know by

August 15th. Take a survey in the back of the church

or go online to our website to link to the survey.

This week the sanctuary lamp burns in honor of the

Most Blessed Sacrament and in memory of Celeste

Bloome.

Last Week’s income $1,686.00. Divine Infant Jesus of

Prague, with gratitude for your blessings, we

commend our needs to your loving care as we pray for

the needy and unemployed.

Thank you for your prayers. They have been

answered! We have the religious educators we need

for this coming year. God bless our parish.

The next Parish/Finance Council meeting will be held

in the hall after the 4:30 PM Mass on Saturday, August

10.

Holy Day Thursday, August 15 is the Solemnity of the

Assumption, a holy day of obligation in the diocese. Masses

will be on Wednesday, August 14 in Covington at 7 PM.

Masses in Attica will be at 7 AM and 7 PM on Thursday,

August 15.

Special The collection for Solidarity with the Church in Africa

will be taken on this weekend, August 3-4.

Narcotics Anonymous 12 step recovery program meets at St.

Joseph in Covington every Tuesday 8-9 PM and Saturday 7-8

PM in the parish hall. This is for anyone needing help with

substance addictions including alcohol and any type of drug.

12 Step Family Support group meets 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at

6:30 pm

Be the 1% Additional lectors and volunteers to read
