Pastoral Letter

Dearly beloved in Christ,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. It gives me a great joy to write to you this pastoral letter. I am sure the month of June and July were very busy with admission of children and Career choosing of our young people. God has been very good to each one of us and has helped in all our work. Now I am sure we are somewhat free with all the tension.

Finally the long awaited dream has come true and the construction work has begun. We are happy that the new office facility is ready. This is quite spacious and good. All of us are in one place and there is so much of coordination among us

We begin the day with prayer and it gives so much of strength to do His ministry.

The temporary toilet block is getting ready and this will be completed soon. The demolition of the parsonage building is in process, and once this is completed the marking for the Jubilee Block will begin. Praise God!!

As I think of this project I am really scared. How are we going to raise this money? It is indeed a big sum. But I am encouraged because our God is big. He knows our needs. He is the one who answers our prayers and I am confident he would meet our need. The word of God says, cast your burden on Him, for he cares for you.

The month of August is very important because this month we will be celebrating the Independence day of our country. We are a free nation and thank God for the freedom that we have. We remember all those patriots who have fought for the freedom of our country. We thank God for all the resources that he has given to us to enjoy life. We thank for all our leaders who provide us with leadership. In our sixty six years of Independence we have achieved quite a bit in all spheres of life.

Although there is so much of progress that we notice but there are many

3Interact - August 2013

issues that really bothers us, especially corruption and morality. I am sure the church has a great role to play in transforming the society. Even as we celebrate the Independence Day of our country, let us determine to pray for our country. It is our sincere prayer that can change the situation and bring about newness in our nation. There are two things that Bible speaks with regard to our authorities. We should obey our authorities. Whatever government is ruling, we should obey. As good citizens we should abide by the laws of our nation. (1Timothy 2: 1-2)

Secondly, the freedom that we have should be used for good purpose. We should not use it for indulging in bad things. (1 Peter 2:13-17) We pray the good Lord help us to be good citizens of our country. However, as we know, our citizenship is in heaven. We are the citizen’s of the kingdom of God. May the good Lord bless our country and all the citizens.

Why? Because that’s what love does.

This is one of the difficult books in the Old Testament. King Solomon is the author of this book. Like his father he was very much addicted to poetry. He wrote this when he had a very close and intimate relationship with God. The book should not be approached with a carnal mind but with piousness of our soul. Here the author talks about the love between the bride and the groom. The groom is supposed to be Jesus and the bride is the Church. So, the book talks about the love between Jesus and his – Church.

Chapter 1

The bride does not give him any name but says ‘Let him kiss me’. Here the bride is talking about groom’s friendship. Let him kiss me means, let him reconcile to me, or let him have the sign of favour. The Old Testament Church desired the manifestation of Christ in the flesh. Let him not send or speak through the angles or prophets but come by himself.

What is the reason for their desire?. This is because she values his love and it is like fragrance to her. Gracious souls esteem his love. His love is indeed great. It is also because of the general affection that

Bible StudyThe song of solomon

she has for him. What about our love for Jesus?

Secondly, she seeks for his closeness because of the fellowship (v 4). She says take me to yourself, draw me nearer, draw me home to you. No one comes to him without his desire. All those who go after him is because he desires that they follow him. It is our response to his grace. The response of the bride to the invitation is, the king has drawn me, has brought me into his chamber. Those that he draws are not only brought to his court, but are brought into his presence – Being brought into his chamber means so much. All our grief, sorrow, discouragement and disappointment vanish. Our desires are crowned with unspeakable delights. Our joy is in him not in the chamber. In his chamber we not only meet with him but meet with everyone – all the saints (V.5, 6). The mention of daughters of Jerusalem is here. The bride admits to them of her ugliness. This is because of her guilt and sin. She wished kisses from them but they did not. This was because of her ugly appearance. The symbolic meaning of this is, the church has become dark because

13Interact - August 2013

of the guilt, scandals and offences of people.

The best of the saints have failed. This also means the humility of the church. She also admits her comeliness. The church is some time dark with persecution, but lowly in patience, and consolation. She also admits that she was fair and white but because of her own people, she has become dark. This is very true when we apply this to our lives. We have made the church look ugly because of our sins.

(V. 7-11) The humble petition of the spouse to the groom the Shepherdess to the shepherd, the Church and every believer to Christ. The title she gives to him is ‘You whom I love’. Her petition is that he is a good shepherd who grazes the sheep. She would like to join him, to have his communion, so she asks him to tell her where he is grazing the sheep.

She enforces this by saying, why should I go after someone else who is an enemy. Turning away from Christ is really sin.

He graciously answered her plea. How soon he answers us. He very tenderly says, do you not know where to find me?. Follow the tracks of the sheep, you will find. Those who have communion with Christ should abide by his laws.

The bridegroom’s praises to the spouse. He calls her darling and says not to fear the enemy. He would give her the strength. He compares them to the company of horses which triumphs over Pharaohs chariots. He admires her beauty. Your cheeks are beautiful. The symbolic meaning of the above is the ordinance of Christ is the ornaments of the Church. She would be beautified by him further.

V 12-17 Talks about Christ being the lover. He is being loved by all believers. Christ has true love for his Church. He says how beautiful you are my darling. He says them to show that there is real beauty in his holiness. The Church express her esteem for Christ. How handsome you are.

The author shows here the beautiful relationship between Christ and his Church. The relationship should be one of love and appreciation. It is like the relationship between the lovers filled with obedience, appreciation, joy and happiness. Our relationship with God must be romantic and not dull. This is only possible when you have genuine love for your Father in heaven. May the good Lord enable us to have true love.

To understand God’s purpose- In this amazing world,

Is that we are on preparation- To his kingdom foretold.

Oil in the lamp, Is the right parable,

A reminder and a map, However you find comfortable.

Holy Spirit is the oil, Received by grace - not from toil.

Lamp is the light we shine, Oil without light is not fine.

Are we doing the deeds lead by the holy spirit! Is all …that is accountable bit by bit.

Degree, job, property, name and fame;- Holy spirit- is not in that game.

To judge others ,criticize or gossip, Is not from the oil in the lamp!

Hatred, pride and position, Is away from the holy spirit’s ambition.

Then what is that oil in the lamp? Love your enemies, go the second mile- Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,

Win a soul with the Kingdom goal. Oil for these, you will certainly need.

Are you on the job, filled with this oil? Or, are you busy not considering the oil.

It really does not matter, if you are a millionare, or a man at loss

You hold many degrees or don’t have any.. They are all going to see the king of kings.

But what really matters is do you have

OIL IN THE LAMP

15Interact - August 2013

the oil in the lamp?- the holy spirit led life… it might be too late- when the bridegroom comes.

No internet or CNN can save you and me. You did better check the life you are living in.

Some day you are going to die broken… Where are you going to go?

I am not talking something you do not know. But I am reminding you about our Lord Jesus Christ-

“He is the way , the truth and the life.

One day he is going split the sky, And come in the brightest light from the highest high

So what I came to say, And what I am telling you,

Is don’t get carried away by some stupid stuff, Maybe driving your life…

Its all designed to fill your head , and waste your space until you die.

Here’s the bottom line of my rhyme… “Fill and do the work led only by the holy spirit

While there is still time”.

Memorize the Bible Theme: Gift of Freedom – Ps. 124:7

1st Sunday – 04/08/2013For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Gal. 5:1

2nd Sunday – 11/08/2013 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 1 Pet. 2:13-17

3rd Sunday – 18/08/2013But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.Eph. 2:13

4th Sunday – 25/08/2013And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

Every Christian, whether man or woman, boy or girl, rich or poor, workman or peasant, writer or priest, judge or official, doctor or lawyer, teacher or pupil,

Government official or missionary, is only a Christian on condition that he witnesses for his Lord....all Christians, wherever they are, have the opportunity

of witnessing for their Master. They can do this by their upright life, their blameless character, by the integrity of their behaviour

and their sincerity in speech, by their enthusiasm for their religion and their love for their Master, using every possible opportunity of telling

others about Jesus Christ.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine..” (Proverbs 17:22)

Even an Englishman could not construct sentences using numbers!

Exclusively only to great Malaysian and Singaporean........

Ah Lek was asked to make a sentence using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Not only did he do it 1 to 10, he did it again back to 1.

This was what he came up with...

1 day I go 2 climb up a 3 outside a house to peep. But the couple saw me, so I panic and 4 down. The man rush out and wanted to 5 with me. I run so fast until I felt 6 and throw up. So I go into 7 eleven and grab some 8 to throw at him. Then I took a 9 and try to stab him. 10 God he run away. So, I put the 9 back and pay for the 8 and left 7 eleven. Next day, I call my boss and say I am 6. He said 5, tomorrow also no need to come back 4 work. He also asks me to climb a 3 and jump down. I don't understand, I so nice 2 him but I don't know what he 1.

Anyone can stand by you when you are right, but a friend will stand by you even when you are wrong.

A simple friend has never seen you cry. A real friend has shoulders soggy from your tears.

A simple friend doesn’t know your parents’ fist names. A real friend has their phone numbers in his address book.

A simple friend brings a bottle of wine to your party. A real friend comes early to help you cook and stays

A real friend ask you why you took so long to call. A simple friend seeks to talk with you about your problems.
