JohnW.Bird,81,ofNorton,Ohiopassed away on February 21, 2018at home following a brief illness. Hewas born January 7, 1937 in Barber-ton,Ohio. Johnentered thegateswiththanksgivingandpraisebecausehebe-lieved in the resurrection of our LordandSavior,JesusChrist.

He was precededindeathbyhisparents,andhisnephew.He issurvivedbyhiswife,Karen;daughters,Deborahand Barbara (Mark); brother, Robert; grandchil-dren and great-grandchildren, and many niecesandnephews.

Robert David Huff,62,ofBrigantine,passedawayonThursday,Janu-ary25,2018inhishome.Bob was born on May23,1955,sonof the lateRobertandRuthHuff.

Bob was born andraised in Middle Town-ship,withhistwosisters,Linda(Crouch)andBar-bara(Springer).In1973,

hegraduatedfromMiddleTownshipHighSchool.Whileinschoolhewasastatewideall-starathleteforfootball,basketball,andbase-ball.After high school, he attended StauntonMilitaryAcademywherehebecameastand-outdefensiveend.TheUniversityofDel-awarethenrecruitedBobtoplayBlueHenfootballonafullathlet-icscholarship.BobenjoyedthistimewithhisfraternitybrothersofSigmaPhiEpsilonwhileearninghisBachelorofSciencedegreeinCriminalJustice.

Bobdedicatedover30yearstohiscareerwiththeNewJerseyCasinoControlCommission.During that time,hemethis futurewife, Sarah (Sheehan)Huff, and her twosons,SeanandMichaelNee.BobandSar-ahmarriedonAugust 19, 1995andwel-comedtheirdaughter,Haley,tothefamilyin1997.

Boblovedbeingafatherandastep-fa-ther.Hewasanavidgolfer,afootballfan,was well-liked by his friends and col-leagues,andwasknownforhisquick-wit-tedhumor.AfterHurricaneSandyin2012,Bobputhiscarpentryexpertisetoworkinrepairing his Brigantine home. In 2013,Bob was diagnosed with lymphoma and

foughtthebattlewithstrengthandoptimismwhichledtoasuccess-fulremission.

Bobissurvivedbyhiswife,sisters,step-sons,daughter,grand-son,nieces,nephews,andin-laws.

Robert King Norton Jr., 69, ofrural Iowa City, diedMonday, Jan.29, 2018, in a car accident.Nortonwas president and chief executiveofficerofKZIA, Inc.Norton is sur-vivedbyhisniece,MaryEllenQuinnJohnson,andherhusband,Bruce,ofTowson,Md.;great-nephews,Bren-nan and Leo Johnson; great-niece,Rory Johnson; and cocker spanielsGordonandKaty.

Norton was born on Oct. 14,1948, inWashington, D.C., to Robert K.NortonSr.andEllenMcKeeFranklinNor-ton,whoprecededhimindeath,asdidhisoldersister,MargaretLeeNorton.Nortongrew up in Bethesda, Md., and attendedStaunton Military Academy in Staunton,VA., theUniversity ofMaryland, and theUniversityofIowa.

He began his radio career atWINX1600 AM in Rockville, Md. Nortonco-founded,withEliotKeller,thefirstFMradiostation in IowaCity,KRNA-FM, in1974.Hewentontoco-foundKZIA,Inc.,

and led thecompany followingKeller’sdeath in2009.The IowaBroadcastersAssociationnamedNorton“BroadcasteroftheYear”in2004.

Dalewas a veteran of theU.S.ArmyandformerlyservedasPolice

Officer and member ofa SWAT Team in Flor-ida. He was currentlyemployedwithMygrantGlass.Heenjoyedspendingtimewithfamilyespecial-lyhisgrandchildrenandpetPiggy.Someofhisotherhobbiesincludedfishing,huntingandridinghismotor-cycle.

John Robert Sutton “Bob” ofTequesta,formerlyofGrossePointe,MI,diedat84,onJanuary12,2015.He graduated from Staunton Mili-taryAcademyandPurdueUniversi-ty,wherehewasamemberofAlphaSigma Phi Fraternity, the PurdueChoir,andMensa.

He served in Japan and Koreaas an agent of the OSI for the USAirForce.Athomehewasastock-broker,radiobroadcasterandsuper-intendent of historic ElmwoodCemetery inDetroit,MI andwasPresidentoftheMichiganCemeteryAssociationfortwoyears.BobwasamemberoftheTequestaCountryClubandservedonitsBoardofGovernors.His“hobbies”inretirementweregolf,reading,trav-eling,and“crosswording”.

Heissurvivedbyhiswifeof58years,Betsy;twodaughters,oneson,twograndchildren,twobrothers-in-law,onesisterandsev-ennephewsandnieces.Asperhisinstructions,nofuneralormemo-rialgatheringsarescheduledinFlorida.

Peter Dorsch Tattersall Sr., afather, lifelong horseman, and pub-lished author, diedMay 28, 2018.Anative of Staunton,Va., and 40-yearresident of Louisiana, Mr. TattersalldiedinNewOrleans’OschnerMedi-calCenterthreeweeksaftersufferingastrokeandsubsequentbrokenankle.Hisdaughterandtwosonswerebyhisbedside.

Mr. Tattersall, whose earliestyears were indelibly stamped by thejuggernaut ofWorldWar II, attendedfirstStauntonMilitaryAcademy,andlaterVirginiaMilitaryInstitute(VMI),whereheplayedforatimeontheuniversitypoloteam.HecountedamonghisfellowSMAcadetssuchpoliticalandculturalno-tablesasBarryGoldwaterJr.andHowardDean.Mr.TattersallalsoworkedforatimeasareporterfortheRichmondTimesDispatch.

In1970Mr.Tattersallandhisthenwife,thecurrentTiaNolanRoddy,aSouthArkansasnativewhomhe’dencounteredinStaunton,

whereshewasattendingMaryBaldwin,movedtoAlex-andria,LA,werethetwoestablishedRosaliePlantationand bore two children, Peter Tattersall Jr. and NolanGrant(Tattersall),bothofNewOrleans.Athoroughbredfarm that, in its heyday, bred, trained andmaintainednearly 200 racehorses, broodmares and studs,RosaliePlantationencounteredfinancialdifficultiesinthemid-1970s.Mr.Tattersall andhis formerwifewere forcedtoshutterthefarm.Thetwodivorcedashorttimelater.

AlongtimeLouisianapoliticalconsultantandlob-byistwhoonceranforstateSenate,Mr.Tattersallalsoserved for several years, in the 1980s, as an assistantwarden at Angola, the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

Duringthattime,herentedahouseonpenitentiarygrounds,resid-ingat“thefarm,”asAngolaisoftenknown.WhileworkingatAn-gola,Mr.Tattersalllearnedof,andbeganresearching,thelifeandwildlyprolificcriminalhistoryofLouisiana-born1930s-eragang-sterEldridgeRobertson,akaCharlieFrazier.

Mr. Tattersall was preceded indeathbytwosisters,KaySteffeeandDr.MaryO’Brian,andissurvivedby,amongothers,sister,ShaneTattersall;nephewSeanSteffeeandwife,Livia;nephew Jed Steffee; daughter NolanGrant and her husband, Chip Grant;formerwifeof20yearsJanellBeattieTattersall;twosons,PeteTattersallJr.ofNewOrleansandThomasTattersallof Staunton, Va.; and six grandchil-dren.Hewillbemissed,andheisfor-ever loved. Bragggrewupalifelong‘Skinsfanandwasdraftedin1968inthefifthroundfromtheUniversityofRichmond.Heplayedall188gamesduringhiscareerandin2002wasnamedoneofthe80GreatestRedskins.

The StauntonMilitaryAcademywasfoundedin1884andclosedin1976.The

campuswaslaterpurchasedbyMaryBaldwinUniversity.Today,theStauntonMilitaryAcademy(SMA)/VirginiaWomen’sInstituteforLeadership(VWIL)museumishousedonthecampusofMaryBaldwinUniversityandcontainstimelessinformationthatrepresentoneofAmerica’sdistinguishedmilitaryacademies.

TheSMAmuseumhasbeenopenfor15years,andtheyfocusoninformingthecommunityofthelegacyofSMAcadetsandhowthosetraditionsarebeingpassedontotheVWILcadets.ThismuseumcontainsinformationthatwillforeverremindpeopleofhowsomeofSMA’salumnihavecontributedtosociety.VWILandSMAcontinuetoworktogethertopreservethelegacyofSMAandthemuseum.VWILisalsocelebratingits20thyearwithavarietyofevents.
