Alfa Laval – Pumps at the Forefront

Alfa Laval rotary lobe pumps remain at the forefront of this tech-nology by providing both gentle and efficient product treatment for low, medium and high viscosity media. Our solid construc-tion and innovative design offers flexibility, reliability and lower operating costs.

With more than 40 years of rotary lobe pump experience, Alfa Laval continues to lead the market and is committed to research and development. The goal of this commitment is to improve our pumps and ultimately your processes. An example of this commitment is our longstanding investment in rheology testing. This testing helps you choose the best pump for your applica-tion.

The SRU and SX range offers 26 models with both vertical or horizontal pump port options. With flow rates up to 506 gpm, you’ll find the right pump for your process at an affordable price.

The SRU rotary lobe pump is Alfa Laval’s core PD pump product and designed to meet today’s strict standards in the food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical and biotech industries.

The SX rotary lobe pump is the ultimate solution for ultra-clean processes where pumped media integrity and the cost of the finished product are paramount in equipment selection deci-sions.

In this brochure you will find an overview of the Alfa Laval SRU and SX rotary lobe pumps. For technical specifications and details, please refer to our product data sheets provided by your local Alfa Laval supplier.

SRU – Proven Performance and ReliabilityThe SRU range of rotary lobe pumps are engineered for use in a variety of applications within the dairy, food, beverage, phar-maceutical, biotech, and personal care industries. SRU pumps can handle all levels of product viscosity and are designed for Cleaning in Place (CIP) and Stem in Place (SIP) processes.

The SRU rotor design provides smooth, low sheer pumping action and is ideal for the most demanding media including creams, gels, emulsions, aerated mixtures, and delicate cells and organic solids in suspension.

• Heavy Duty ConstructionSRU pumps feature an oil lubricated cast iron gearbox incorpo-rating taper roller bearings for smooth running and long life in the most demanding applications. Standard wetted components and pump shafts are manufactured in 316 low carbon stainless steel. Duplex 329 low carbon stainless steel shafts are used on all SRU high-pressure models. Other material options are available to order.

• Porting OptionsSRU pumps are available in both horizontal and vertical confi-gurations. Multiple connection options are available for existing installations and processes.

• Rotor Options316L stainless steel Trilobe rotors are the standard for the SRU range. Biolobe rotors in 316L stainless steel and non-gal-ling alloy are options for special applications. All rotor options operate with close tolerance clearances with no metal-to-metal contact. The SRU is designed specifically to eliminate the shed-ding of material into product, reducing the risk of contamination.

• Involute SplinesInvolute splines enable precise radial location for rotors and provide maximum power transmission. This feature permits high precision operation and rotor interchangeability with different size rotor cases.

• Mechanical seals. SRU pumps offer a choice of sanitary seals available in single, single-flushed and double-flushed arrangements in a wide variety of materials.

• Drive Options A multitude of drive options are available to meet your requi-rements. Standard electric motor drive units can be mounted on our stainless steel bases or mobile trolleys depending on application needs.

• Pump Head Mounting. SRU pumps are designed with options for significant space bet-ween the gearbox and pump head. This feature exceeds USA 3A guidelines, further reducing the risk of cross contamination and enabling any leakage to be detected easily.

Interchangeable bolt on foot component enables vertical or horizontal port configuration.

SX – The Optimum Choice for Ultra-clean Processes

The SX range of rotary lobe pumps is dedicated to a wide range of demanding applications within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and personal care industries. Both 3A compli-ant and validated by the European Hygienic Equipment Design Group (EHEDG) as fully CIP clean-able, the SX range is ideal for applications where product integrity is paramount. SX pumps are perfect for Stem in Place (SIP) cleaning procedures.

• Front-loading mechanical seal optionsThe SX is currently the only 3A and EHEDG accredited pump range with front-loading mechanical seal options. This feature gives you the ability to change the mechanical seal without removing the rotor case.

• High Performance Multi-lobe Rotor TechnologyHigh precision rotors provide high efficiency with low sheer pumping action and laminar flow.

The stainless steel four-lobe rotors are designed with close tolerance, eliminating metal-to-metal contact, which reduces the risk of system contamination.

• Ultimate Hygiene. Fully compression joints and the latest elastometic barrier technology are used in place of “O” rings to fully seal the shaft blind from process fluids. As the ultimate proof of hygiene, all SX pumps meet the newest pharmaceutical and biotechnology standard as they’re ADCF (animal derived component free) certi-fied. You’ll also find the SX offers USP class VI elasimers.

• Porting for Maximum DrainabilitySX pumps are available in both horizontal and vertical configura-tions. Connection options are available which provide maximum compatibility with existing processes. The vertical configuration, along with a 3º fall angle in the rotor case, facilitates draining of residual media in the rotor case.

1. Compact cast-iron power frame is designed for durability.

2. Taper roller bearings are optimally positioned for superior shaft support.

3. Spur timing gears are engineered to deliver synchronized rotor motion.

4. Heavy-duty duplex stainless steel shaft for high-discharge pressure capability.

5. Oil lubrication of bearings and timing gears ensures long life. Larger SX models also feature separate chamber for each shaft assembly to ensure thorough and efficient lubrication.

6. Timing gears and shaft assemblies are easy to access. Shaft assemblies are front loaded and can be removed independently.

7. Retained shims are located behind the casing, so rotor-face and back-face clearances can be set without gear case disassembly.

Heavy-duty construction. Easy maintenanceSRU pumps feature a heavy-duty gearbox for severe-duty application; taper roller bearings that provide maximum axial and radial shaft support; and high-strength stainless steel shafts on all models (duplex on high-pressure models).

The simple, modular design helps make set-up and maintenance easier. For example, the taper locking system helps you readily adjust and set pump timing; the modular shaft assembly greatly simplifies gearbox maintenance; and the self-adjusting seals make repairs quick and easy.
