Benefits Range of 11kV Circuit Breakers on offer
• Added Safety features by adding Behind Door Racking
• Get Oil CB’s off the system
• More advanced Interlocking
• New CB with new life and higher Technology , less maintenance
Benefit and range
—UFESABB has developed an Ultra Fast Earthing Switch , which opens the possibility for new arc protection concepts for MV Switchgear systems. It is an innovative combination of the ABB technologies vacuum interrupter and Is-Limiter

UFES operating description UFES components
• A device as small as a 22kv insulator offers enhanced protection for your switchgear by minimizing of all three effects
• The UFES arc protection system channels the uncontrolled release of energy by the arc into a solid metal , 3 phase connection to earth potential
• Triggered by electronic device using light and current
• As this short-circuit is of considerably lower impedance than the fault, the fault current commutates from the arc to the defined short-circuit created by the Primary Switching Element, causing the arc fault voltage to break down and the arc to be extinguished almost immediately. The resulting controlled flow of earth fault current is then finally shut down by the feeder circuit-breaker.
• The internal arc will be extinguished within an operating time of < 4ms after detection of the fault

Other Protection devises UFES Operating times
• Conventional Protection Device
Detection by standby relay – clearing of arc fault by upstream circuit breaker
Arc fault duration 200-300ms
Dramatic consequences possible
Fire/Explosion hazard, heavy injuries of personnel
• Fast-acting relay with supplementary equipment
Fast protection by special protection relay – clearing of arc fault by upstream breaker
Arc fault duration typical 50-100ms
Limited consequences – for equipment and switchgear (depending on design)
Comparison
• UFES system
Ultra-fast extinction of the internal arc by activating the UFES primary element
Final clearing of fault current by upstream circuit breaker
Ar fault duration < 4ms
NO consequence to be expected – prevention of any thermal damage and reduction of pressure rise

In the past E-Houses had been used mainly in “traditional” market segments such as O&G, mining and utilities. The approach in these segments is driven by detailed and sometimes demanding specifications.
New and fast developing market segments like renewables, datacenters, ship to shore, temp power, infrastructure etc, require solutions that are fast to deliver, standardized and/or modularized.
The E-House is a switching substation utilizing one of the following designs;
• Containerized Solution
• Modularized Design
• Single Large Structures
• Skid Mounted Modules
• Mobile Substation
Typical Installation with 2 x Incomers and 1 x Bussection

ABB Background in Reyrolle retrofits Reasons for retrofitting
• Reyrolle SA was bought by ABB in 2002 and we kept the knowledge and experience on Reyrolle Switchgear in ABB
• We have existing contracts in place and done over 2000 retrofits so far, this includes CoCT , London underground , Saudi Arabia , Japan Elect. et
• Fully Type tested design , including internal arc fault ratings
• Proven design with added safety features
• All existing Reyrolle design drawings are still available in ABB
• Keep strategic spares for legacy product
ABB experience and reasons for retrofitting
• Unsafe Switchgear on the system , old , unreliable , Oil filled
• Legacy product with limited to no spares availability
• Much cheaper to upgrade and retrofit than replacing the Switchgear
• Down-time to retrofit is much less than replacing
• No MV cable work necessary
• Budget can be done and planned before a fault takes away the complete substation

Offering Existing Circuit Breakers
• Replace any existing Reyrolle LM-Type circuit breaker with modern HD4 or VD4 breaker
• Upgrade Interlocking with added safety
• Replace side-wipe contact configuration with plug & socket arrangement , this gives reliable connection between panel and breaker plus extra wiring to add signals and control for SCADA
• Upgrading of shutter box arrangement to help with self alignment
• Adding of behind-close door feature for safety , ARC Vent type tested
• Adding Arc Vent features to the rest of the panel if required
• Adding / upgrading protection relays
• Adding remote switching and motor charging of CBs
