Announcement The Board of Directors of the Centralia School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Principal of Centralia Middle School.

Centralia Middle School“Home of the Yellowjackets”

Built in 1958 and renovated in 1987, CMS serves approxi-mately 540 7th and 8th grade students ages 12-14. CMS offers comprehensive programs in language arts, math, social studies and science. We also provide P.E., music, art and other explorato-ry courses. In addition, a continuum of special education program services is provided to students with disabilities. We believe all students can be successful and offer a vari-ety of intervention programs as well as enrichment opportunities including Highly Capable for students demonstrating very high achievement in writing and reading. Eighth grade students are placed in either Math 8 or Algebra I--the equivalent of 9th grade math. The music department offers band, orchestra and choir. These programs give multiple performances each year and offer a won-derful opportunity for students to be involved and expand their music skills. A variety of sports and clubs are also available to all students. Our programs are designed to give students the widest range of exploration in broad subject areas whileworkingtowardcoreproficienciesneeded to be successful.

The CommunityCentralia is located in Southwest Washington enabling its 16,336 residents to enjoy the scenic beauty as well as many outdoor activities including mountain climbing, hiking,fishing,boating,waterandsnowskiingandaccesstooceanbeaches . . . all within a hundred-mile radius. The community is often described as “kid-oriented” because of the support of student activities. Centralia is also the location of the state’s oldest community college which offers a wide variety of educational opportunities.

Essential Master’sdegreeinthefieldofeducation,preferablyineducational administration or curriculum and instruction A Washington State Principal’s Credential An ability to lead the School Improvement Planning process Effective communicator inlcuding speaking, listening, transparent, ability to gain authentic input Willingness to learn middle level instruction and programs An understanding of middle school programs Ability to establish positive discipline procedures and staff/student relations Ability to establish relationships with students, parents, staff and community Understanding students from diverse family backgrounds, e.g. ELL/ poverty Commitment to the community of Centralia A strong child focused approach to education An understanding of special education law/programmingPreferred Successful teaching experience at the middle school level Middle school administrative experience Knowledge and experience with TPEP A demonstrated ability to provide energetic, positive and creative leadership in reform based teaching and learning A demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of back- grounds and cultures A demonstrated ability to motivate, discipline and interact with students in a effective manner Experience in/with instructional leadership and best practices including the work of Professional Learning Communities A demonstrated ability to hold people to high expectations Willingness to live within Centralia School District

Specific Duties Lead the middle school in relation to the Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors Lead the school improvement planning, monitoring, and evaluation process Manage collective bargaining agreements at the building level Manage building level budgets Focus/lead efforts to measure and improve student achievement Performs other administrative tasks as assigned, including but not limited to supervision of teachers/staff, hiring, curriculum development, student discipline, supervision of special education program within the school, etc
