Our Terrain and Trails

Our stomping grounds allow youto explore trails that meld bothpast and present. In the 1890's,during the mining boom of the'Silvery Slocan,' thousands of miners armed with pickaxes andshovels toiled to  build pack trailsfrom the lakes up

to their mineshafts.More than acentury later, riding these sametrails on our bikes,we can't help butfeel the presence of these long lost trail builders. They mined silver, we mine trails.

Our trails consist of long, winding single-track descentsfrom mountaintops to lakeshores. We have rekindled long-lostroutes into smooth, bermeddownhill trails; where ridingthrough Old Growth forests andfeeling the touch of the past is aneveryday occurrence. The viewsare always awe-inspiring - moremountains, more trees, and more

scenic beauty. Our trails will leadyou ever onwards to the perfectcorner or your favourite newsection.

At Retallack, riding and trail  building is what we do. With a  backyard like ours, it's hard not

to keep adding toour quiver of trails. Every time

we finish a newride we areplotting wherethe next bigdescent will be.With thousands

of acres of perfectterrain at ourfingertips, we justwant to keepr i d i n g a n d

exploring.

Trip Preparation

We strongly recommend that you bring all-weather riding clothing. We like to anticipate sunnyweather, but things can changequickly in the mountains. We ask guests to bring a daypack eachday. You can use this to bringalong water, some tools, snacks, etc. Most days we leave ourlunch in the vehicles and eat onthe way up the mountain or atthe end of a trail on a lake. However, it is good idea to havea pack for longer rides. A helmet

(e.g. full-face), knee and shinguards, and gloves aremandatory. Youare welcome towear a half-shellc ross - cou ntryhelmet but wedo recommendt h e e x t r aprotection of afull-face helmet.Apart from good

riding shoes and clothes forchilling in the Lodge, don’t forget

your bathing suit for the lake!

Ability and Fitness

You don’t need to bean expert rider, however, our terrainand trails are not forthe meek andinexperienced. Youshould consideryourself to be at leastan intermediatemountain biker and  be proficient withtight corners and

steep hills. If youride on trails morethan two timesper week andhave previouslyridden a lift-accessed bikepark or trailm a r k e d a sintermediate toadvanced youwill be fine. Our

guides take it upon themselves toinform you of what to expect on

each upcoming section of trailand will offer you coaching andinstruction on the best way to

negotiate challenging

sections. Somesections may bemore difficult, butyour guide will warnyou beforehand. Wewill not be askingyou to point yourself down super steep, rugged, loose andplunging trails, butsome of our trailsvary towards the

advanced. However, all our trails are well designed, and don’t feature any mandatorydrops or bridges. The trails weride are very diverse, but we tryto offer our guests as consistenttrail quality and difficulty aspossible. We find that riding lessdifficult trails is actually morefun!

We look forward to sharing our

  backcountry mountain bikingparadise with you!
