Retail Security

Security is a major drain on every retail store & shopping centre budget, therefore it must be effective and be able to demonstrate a return for the investment.

The key areas where a Retail Security Officer can demonstrate their worth are:

Customer Service – Security personnel are often the first person your customers notice in your premises. We place great importance on our officers greeting your customers with a smile, and if approached by a customer ensuring they get the assistance they require. Our officers understand the importance of your customers repeat business in ensuring your business’s success, and therefore know that friendly professionalism in their duty is an essential part of their remit.

Loss Prevention – The Uniformed Retail Security Officers role is that of a deterrent to crime simply by their presence. Where our Officers suspect shoplifting is occurring they have been trained to make their presence felt without engaging with suspects unless completely necessary, thus in most cases resulting in the criminals not seeing through their mission to steal. Where no other option is available our officers are fully versed in arrest, detention & prosecution procedures.

Profit Protection – Our Retail Security Officers have been trained to recognise poor practice that can result in loss to the client of stock or income through litigation. Regular issues for a store can be high value goods being left near exits or untagged, staff not following correct procedures for refunds or voids, identified staff theft or collusion with customers or poor goods inwards documenting. In stores or shopping centres, poor management of threats such as wet floors, trip hazards or sharp edges can lead to insurance claims. Our officers know it is their responsibility to identify these risks, document them and report them to management to avoid loss in the store.Retail Security Officers are most effective if they are part of the premises management team rather than being seen as an outsider who just deals with troublemakers. We encourage our clients to hold regular briefings with our security officers and to have exchanges of information regularly to help the officer negate risk for the store or

shopping centre. Our officers are very aware that whilst they are part of the brand team and someone store staff must feel comfortable raising security issues with, their duty is to remain impartial and act as the watchdog for the client’s interests primarily.

Field & Executive Management – Dedicated Account Managers are assigned to all clients and are the first point of direct contact. Each Account manager has a minimal amount of clients to serve and visit each of their stores or centres weekly receiving feedback from store managers and security officers, resolving minor issues and assisting with future plans of action. Monthly KPI reporting is actioned and uploaded to both Lodge Senior management and to the client to ensure all parties are kept updated regularly regarding their stores security. Company Regional Managers & Directors are available to all clients as sources of advice on security matters or to bring any issue that arises to a quick resolution.
