When springtime breathes life into dormant vines I’m reminded of the

ritual of decanting, which similarly awakens a bottled wine whether

young or old. Like spring buds about to burst, a young wine benefits from

plenty of air in order to reveal its true form. Decanting a mature wine

separates its past from its present, displaying that noble character only

time can develop. Sotheby’s Wine is evolving as well, with sharp pricing

and increased shipping options, we’re thrilled to offer our expertise when

you desire a wine to enjoy on a beautiful spring evening.

Retail plays an integral role in the wine market: it’s the place to source

just-released vintages from any appellation. Collectors know buying wine

when it first arrives is the secret of acquisition, when prices are lowest and

available quantities greatest. Crucial to cellaring is deciding how long to

put away your wines. Please contact us should you seek advice in this area.

The name Sotheby’s Wine confers an expectation of prestige and access

to the finest of wines from top regions at the best values. Victor Rabot

has just joined us in New York as our global Retail Fine Wine Buyer

having spent several years managing Sotheby’s Wine retail in Hong Kong .

Already he has refreshed our selection of show-stopping bottles to include

the iconic 1989 Haut Brion and verticals of D.R.C.—wines to make your

decanter sing. Our selection has seen the addition of promising new-

comers like Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet, whose sub-$100 bottles remind

us of when certain appellations were still undiscovered values.

This spring Sotheby’s Wine is bursting with newness. Graham, Victor and

I are greatly looking forward to sharing it with you.

Cheers!
