The Lived Experiences of Masters Prepared Academic Nurse Educators.
Abstract presented at Sigma Theta Tau International Region 8 Conference

This presentation concerned the methodology and purpose for exploring experiences masters-
prepared academic nurse educators were having in relation to the decision-making process about
whether or not to pursue doctoral education.

RESEARCH
Protocol Title: “A Qualitative Longitudinal Exploration of the Lived Experiences of
Baccalaureate Nursing Students through the Course of Their Education.” Current study now in
semester of a five semester program.
Global Service Learning: Currently writing an article for journal submission. The article is a
qualitative method presenting student experiences on a service learning trip to Guatemala in May
of 2013.
SERVICE
Education Abroad: A program I established in Guatemala providing medical and nursing
services to the under-served Mayan population. While in Guatemala I provided primary care
along with another nurse practitioner, seeing as many as 50 patients each per day for a week. I
worked with the office of education abroad and International Affairs at Middle Tennessee State
University as well as multiple NGO’s raising support for the project.
