GLOCAL MISSIONS

LOTTIE MOON

CHRISTMAS OFFERING

CBC Goal: $13,000

Received to Date: $10,743

The Lottie Moon Christmas offering (LMCO) is named for Lottie Moon, a

missionary to China whose letters pleading for mission support still resonate

today. She died December 24, 1912, after living a life of total sacrifice to God

and the people of China. The LMCO provides critical funding for international

missions efforts, allowing Southern Baptists to send and equip missionaries

across the globe. Every dollar we give goes to further the Good News of Jesus

Christ around the world.

LOTTIE MOON POST OFFICE

OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

“Mail” your Christmas cards addressed to other church

members through the Lottie Moon Post Office. There

is a table for cards with a drop-box for money located in

the main hallway. The “Post Office” will be open

through December 23rd. Please alphabetize your cards

and put the whole name on the envelope (ie: John &

Betsy Hancock). All proceeds will be given to the Lottie

Moon Offering for International Missions. A donation of

25¢ per card is requested. Cards will not be hand

delivered, so please stop by and “check your mail.”

MEN’S MINISTRY

How wonderful it was to worship with you all during the musical, The King is

Here. Truly, it was a joyful evening of music. I can’t begin to name all of the

people that worked so hard to make it a reality. Thank you just doesn’t seem

adequate for the sacrifice of time and talents that were used during such a busy

season. I trust that knowing our gifts were used to honor and lift up the name of

Jesus is thanks enough. What a real blessing it is to serve along side of you all at

Covenant!

JOYFUL SOUND IN CONCERT

Sunday, February 10th

Joyful Sound, North Greenville University’s Baptist Collegiate Ministry

Ensemble, will present a concert in our morning service on February 10th at

Covenant Baptist Church. A typical concert includes contemporary and

traditional Christian music. The group will include singers and their worship

band. Founded in 1892, North Greenville University is South Carolina

Baptists’ oldest Educational Institution. Located in Tigerville, the College

offers over thirty-five Bachelor degrees. The group will arrive late Saturday

afternoon on the 9th. We will need several host homes for two or three students

each. Please let Tracey know as soon as possible if you would be willing to be

a host home. You will be blessed by these awesome students!

CALLED FAMILY FORUM Sunday, December 23rd @ 10:15 a.m.

To seek affirmation of Personnel Committee Recommendation that JB Bowen transition to full time Minister of Youth

beginning January 1, 2019.

GOD BECAME FLESH AND DWELT AMONG US

John 1: 1 - 17

Christmas celebrates that moment when God became flesh and dwelt among us. He didn't put on a disguise, but He "became flesh" and "dwelt among us". Jesus told us in John 10:30, "I and the Father are one." The word "dwelt" literally means He pitched His tent among us. Think about that. Let it sink in. The God of all, the Creator, took upon Himself the form of man, a human body, and pitched His tent, His abode, right here with us. He knows us, understands us, and experienced all that we experience. He is still with us today through the Holy Spirit living within those who have given their hearts and lives to Him (John 15). This is one of the distinctions between Christianity and other religions. Other religions talk about man seeking God, while Christianity tells about God coming to man. God became man. That's the Christmas story. It's not just about a baby being born; it's about God becoming flesh and dwelling among us.

Parents, I would like to take a moment and thank you from the bottom of my heart

for all the effort you put into helping us pull off the nativity scene this past Sunday

during our cantata. It was such a special moment, and I was proud to see the

children representing the birth of Christ in such a sweet way. Thank you for

bringing them to the practices, helping with motions, and everything else it took to

pull this off. You all are amazing!

Kids, y’all rocked that nativity! The angels fluttered fantastically, the star shone

brightly, the shepherds and sheep scurried perfectly, the wise man walked

wonderfully, the donkey dazzled, and well Mary and Joseph were marvelous. Way

to go guys!

Guess what! Are you ready?? Are you sure??? We are bringing Prayer Partners

back, and we want YOU to be a part of it. It is really quite simple: you sign up, we

pair up, and then you pray…and do some fun things at some awesome events.

Interested? You should be. We have eleven children to match up now, but we will

need more than eleven prayer partners to sign up so we are prepared when we grow.

If you are interested, please let Carsen know or sign up at the Connection Center.

We are excited to announce that we will be teaming up with M.O.P.S. International

to host a local young mothers group here at the church starting February 5th. This

will be an amazing outreach opportunity for our church. Mothers need a place for

rest, encouragement, and fellowship, so if you know any mothers, do not be shy

about spreading the news about our program. For this to be successful, we are in

need of volunteers to help with childcare, gym time – games, and snacks. If you are

interested, please contact Julie Mathews at 616-723-6360 or email her at:
