KNOW THE DIFFERENCE Plain and simple, a duty describes what

you did and an accomplishment describes how well you did it. For example, “planned events” would

be considered a job duty, whereas “raised $100,000 by selling out tickets to a 200-person charity event” is an accomplishment.

Stuck on what to write? Describe your job to a friend…your daily activities, what you were most proud of, etc. Then have your friend

summarize what you said. This helps you get a fresh perspective.

How to write your accomplishments An achievement is a goal that has been reached.

An accomplishment is a job or project that has been completed.

Make a list of what you achieved & accomplished What did I do that was above and beyond my normal job

duties?

How did I stand out among other employees?

Was I ever recognized by a supervisor for a job well done? When and why?

Did I win any awards or accolades?

What new processes did I implement to improve things?

What problems did I solve?

Did I ever consistently meet or exceed goals or quotas?

Did I save the company money?

What made me really great at my job?

Add #’s and %’s

Give quantitative data to highlight your statements Number of clients, projects, etc

Percentages & ratings

If you want to say you are good at sales don’t just say

“highly ranked sales associate”

Show it! Give Examples!

“Consistent sales track above 60% closing rate”

Make sure the info you provide is valid &

truthful!

Ok, so what? It’s not enough to just add in a number…prove your benefit

to the company. Explain why they should pick you!

OK : “Highly ranked sales associate”

BETTER : “Consistent sales track above 60% closing rate”

BEST : “ Consistent proven sales track above 60% closing rate has provided travel opportunities to develop destination product knowledge; leading to promotion as specialized agent working with higher end product and group clientele.”

More creative fields have flexibility in the visual look of a resume ie. Marketing, Advertising, Graphic Design, Arts

If you have a conservative/traditional field…stick with a traditional résumé look.
