Comments

Paul Cox (Self):

Normally all work is done on time and correctly, I think that I go above and beyond in preparation for projects, but I often fallbehind on admin. issues such as P-card expense reports

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul exceeds expectations in this area.  Often he works additional hours to prepare for his daily tasks including traveling outof town for our projects.  Paul is capable of managing several large projects at a time but as we learned this year, it is best tostagger the timing of those projects so as one is well underway he starts another.  His commitment to the profitability ofProBuild positively impacts his decision making.  Paul has been given several of the most complicated jobs we've had withthe most demanding customer's we've had and even though the financial results of those projects were less than desirable,they would have been worse with someone else running them.

Due to good pre-planning and coordination I think I perform well in this area. I send a lot of time coordinating my jobs toprevent mistakes in the field

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul is self-directed and is one of the more senior members of our team.   The quality of his work is demonstrated by therespect his customers have for him.  His knowledge and experience has often times this year prevented problems for ourcustomer by bringing up issues and having the forethought to avoid them before they become issues.  He always expectsquality work out of our subcontractors and expects to deliver a project on-time and in great condition.  Paul is excellent atkeeping accurate and detailed documentation throughout the project.  His attention to detail and maintenance of jobdocumentation protects our exposure to liability on our large projects.    His knowledge and experience also allows him tocoordinate well with other trades to avoid potential conflicts on the job.

While we have had no injuries this year, we can never do enough. The culture is slowly evolving, but it is not where I want it.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Comments

Paul Cox (Self):

While I have had issues this year with one customer, I have built a strong relationship with another. I feel that the relationshipwith our customer in Virginia eroded due to unobtainable goals agreed to between our customer and their customer whichcaused undue tension on the site.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

As mentioned before, Paul adds value to our customer and he is respected by them for that.  He knows more about woodframing and our products than most of our customers and he's constantly educating them on products, means and methods.  He is just as adept at working with our internal customers, (i.e. our vendors and other associates).  He is respected bymany for his experience and knowledge and his willingness to satisfy the customer.  His attention to the Customer andwillingness to satisfy them represent the 'value-add' that our customers use to differentiate us with others.

well as working collaboratively with members of the team to get the job done.  Paul's approach to managing a team is to be aleader but also realizes the necessity to earn the respect and trust of your team by example and not by edict.  He hasearned the respect of his Project Team this year by working alongside them.  There were some issues early on, but Paulrecognized them and worked hard to gain the trust and respect of his team and things came around quickly.

Comments

Paul Cox (Self):

I need to better job of listening at times. I show respect to my peers and subordinates, but often need to listen more.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul leads by example and commands the respect of those around him by doing so.  This is not the same as demandsrespect.  He has earned respect through his experience and by showing respect to others.  In turn people respect himbecause of that.  He values the opinions of the people he works for and the opinions of our subcontractors and customers. Our customers respect him because of his approach and commitment to his work.  Paul is very direct and that can veryeasily be misrepresented as disrespect, but once those that work with Paul have worked with him enough they realize that isjust his delivery and that he holds the utmost respect for those that work as hard as he does.  Even during some very difficulttimes on the Virginia project, Paul was respectful and professional most of the time even when being disrespected byothers and kept his cool a lot better than some would have.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul is a man of character and integrity that will always do what is right no matter the cost.  He has made decisions thatmake people question what he is thinking, but its never due to his integrity or his reputation.  He is known for doing the rightthing, period.    He also coaches others to do the same thing and to represent ProBuild in that manner at all times.  Do whatis right, no matter the cost, no matter who is looking... Do what is right.    Because of his integrity, his customers recognizethat as a value-add to use ProBuild.

I could do a better job of recognizing others accomplishments. I feel this year was such a tough year that it was often hard tosee the forest for the trees, this was a very trying year.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul meets expectations in this area.  He recognizes others for a job well done and often will make them aware of that.  He'snot one to put it on a billboard or sing it from the mountaintop, but he will make sure it's known that you did something goodand right and will make sure you know about it.   He helps others recognize their success by doing that.

I feel that I always strive to evolve and learn new techniques and ways to do things, specifically trying to integrate technologyin to our business to make us more efficient.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Paul is always looking for ways to improve our business.  He is constantly trying new technology or applications and sharingthem with others. It is his recognition and trial of PlanGrid that led to us using it for managing our project documentation inthe field with our subcontractors with it, as well as managing our Quality Control with it.  Paul not only looks at technology forways of improvement, but he is constantly looking at ways to improve processes as well.  He shares new ideas with his co-workers.  His positive attitude towards change has been a vital part of our continual improvement process.

Daniel Futral (Performance Reviewer):

Though Paul was faced with some very difficult challenges early in the year with the Virginia project, he rebounded from thosechallenges and has risen to the challenge.  He came very close to walking off that job and walking away from a career atProBuild.  The reality of it is that if we would not have had Paul on that job, it would have turned out much worse than it did. His attention to detail and his accurate and consistent documentation probably will save us quite a bit of money.  He alsocompletely changed his attitude when he finished that job.  He is one of our leaders now and has been very involved in ourcontinual improvement process to change our business.  His ideas and his willingness to share them with others and toconstantly be looking for ways to do it better are contagious.  His knowledge and experience have been very beneficial toProBuild.  Paul also completed his Florida Contractors License this year which allows the company to do commercialbusiness in the State of Florida.   I appreciate Paul's willingness to stick through the tough times and to make a decision tomove forward and move upward instead of throwing in the towel when faced with adversity.  His determination and hiswillingness to make our company better are what we need in others.
