What happens as we age?
• Young skin is smooth and elastic
• As we age, skin loses volume and wrinkles appear
• This is due, in part, to skin losing its ability to produce enough of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid (HA)

Wrinkle

What can be done?
• Dermal fillers with HA are an effective nonsurgical option– Fillers can fill in lines,
restore lost volume, and soften facial folds
– Fillers should be chosen by you and your doctor with care
For illustration purposes only; not actual results.

Restylane® is an innovative dermal filler
• Restylane is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable HA gel
• First non-animal HA dermal filler approved for cosmetic use in the United States
• Gel is injected into the skin using a very fine needle to minimize discomfort
Note: Volume injected depends on patient, location, and degree of correction required. Photo courtesy of Q-Med.

Restylane® is natural and safe
• Used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons worldwide since 1996
• Contains HA, which is a natural part of human skin
• Free from animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction*
• Maintains an excellent safety profile– More than 1.5 million treatments worldwide
• Most clinical experience worldwide*Restylane contains traces of gram-positive bacterial proteins and is contraindicated for patients with allergies to such material.

Restylane® is long-lasting, not permanent
• Restylane effects generally last for about six months
• Because the face changes with age, permanent fillers may not look good over time
• Unlike permanent dermal fillers, your future needs can be re-evaluated when the treatment wears off
• With Restylane, follow-up treatments can be performed at any time

How do other fillers compare?
• Collagen– Bovine collagen is derived from animals (cows)
and requires an allergy test
– Restylane® lasts for about six months
• Other HA-based products– Restylane has the highest HA concentration
available (20 mg/mL)– Free from animal proteins - this limits any risk of
animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction*
*Restylane contains traces of gram-positive bacterial proteins and is contraindicated for patients with allergies to such material.

How does Botox® Cosmetic differ?
• Restylane® is a natural cosmetic filler and Botox Cosmetic is a drug that relaxes the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles
• Some physicians use Botox Cosmetic for the upper third of the face and Restylane for the lower third
• Patients have been very pleased after treatment with both products

What do Restylane® treatments cost?
• Restylane is a customized treatment based on your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient
• In general, the cost of a treatment is comparable to the cost of similar procedures
• However, because Restylane is long-lasting, it may be more economical over time

What should be done before treatment?
• There are things you can do before being treated with Restylane® to improve your experience and results– Avoid using St. John’s Wort, high doses of
vitamin E supplements, aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, for one week prior to treatment because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site
– For patients prone to facial cold sores, treatment can cause a recurrence; a medication may be prescribed to reduce your risk

Treatment: Getting the look you desire
• Restylane® is injected directly into the skin using an ultra fine needle to minimize discomfort
• The procedure is short, simple, and convenient, and the results are nearly instantaneous

Will I feel discomfort?
• Many patients experience little to no discomfort during treatment, but everyone is different and certain parts of the face are more sensitive
• After the procedure, many patients felt that the pain was not as bad as expected

How to increase comfort during treatment
• A topical cream applied half an hour before treatment
• An injection of anesthesia, usually needed only when treating the sensitive area around the mouth
• Ice, which can be applied at the time of injection

• Avoid touching the area for at least six hours
• Keep a low profile that day– Postpone social engagements for one to two days– Avoid alcohol and vigorous exercise
• After your treatment, you might have some redness or swelling. This will normally last less than seven days
• Cold compresses can be applied immediately after treatment to reduce swelling
• Next morning, the area can be gently washed and light makeup applied
• Sunbathing and cold outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappear. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you shouldn't use Restylane®
