THE BRIEF It is imperative as a musician to be able to improvise with other musicians and respond to a range of stimuli and source material in order to

be able to work in a variety of places in the music industry.

As preparation for the project we will look at variety of genres and improvising styles within them. You will research and produce a report

(written, audio or visual) on the elements of improvisation for 3 different musical styles (Unit 12 GC1).

Your groups will be given source material to explore and blog about your choices and the thought process behind them (Unit 15 GC1).

Using these conventions and source material you will prepare an improvised performance an appropriate stimulus (Unit 12 GC2, GC3, GC4

& Unit 15 GC2) before performing it to your directors as a pitch for the direction the FMP/ Christmas show music should take. (Unit 12 GC2,

GC3, GC4 & Unit 15 GC3).

On your tumblr you should then evaluate the potential of the work in artistic, professional and vocational terms; discussing the strengths and

weaknesses for its use in the FMP/Christmas show. (Unit 15 GC4)
