HOME MAINTENANCE CLASS

While working one-on-one with new immigrant households, it was determined there was a need for educating emerging markets on what it means to have a home in the United States.

Our Home Maintenance class was developed to meet these needs.

We bring the class to the students Visit a home in the area to educate on systems within the

home Help to determine an emergency plan within their homes Education for hands-on repair and replacement Visit a local hardware store to educate on needed tools and

use of tools Bring in local speakers: Police Department, Fire

Department, City Building Inspectors

STRUCTURE OF THE HOME MAINTENANCE CLASS

We partner with local Adult Basic Education programs (ABE’s) to provide classes to their students• Classes are offered at ABE’s in Willmar, Worthington, Tracy, Walnut Grove,

and Luverne• Classes are generally held one to two times each year

We partner with the local ACE Hardware and Home Depot to provide hands-on stations, education on tools, and tours of the store to provide students with the necessary resources to become more self-sufficient
