• Respiration produces energy for cells.

• ALL organisms, including animals and plants, break down sugar into carbon dioxide and water.

• Fermentation breaks down sugar without oxygen and makes lactic acid as a waste product.

• Lactic acid is what makes your muscles burn when you work out really hard.
