A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Wow, we are halfway through the term already! Students have participated in a number of special days and activities over the past two weeks. NAIDOC week was recognised last week with stories, Rainbow Serpent art and ‘Earth Eye’ craft. Shkeira and Chase led the school through a Remembrance Day assembly on Wednesday. They spoke so well and all students were respectful and engaged throughout the assembly. On Thursday Mrs Alessi ran a tie dying session, assisting students to make bandannas, utilising different objects such as marbles, rubber bands, clips and pegs. It was fantastic to see so many amazing patterns! This week the school was filled with some wonderful children’s book and film characters including Thelma the Unicorn, Woody, The Little Mermaid, Where’s Wally and our Hogwarts favourites. The students looked fantastic! Of course, these activities would be possible without the great work of the staff at Windellama Public School. Thank you to Mrs Ball, Miss Huntley, Mrs Hayes and our support staff Ms Charney, Mrs Warren, Miss Wyatt, Miss Burton and Mrs Alessi for the exceptional work that you do to create great opportunities for our students. As we move towards the end of the year, positive behaviour remains a priority. All staff have high expectations of respect, responsibility and excellence when it comes to behaviour in the classroom and the playground, which is communicated through weekly positive behaviour focus lessons. We value your continued support in reiterating these expectations.

EVENTS DATES

Presentation Day Week 9, Wednesday 9th December

Last Day of Term 4 Week 10, Wednesday 16th December

3 – 6 REPORT

On Wednesday was book week dress up, we did some fun activaties. Mrs Ball brought in lucky dips for the school instead of buying books. The whole school watched a movie called Where the Wild Things Are. Some of the great costumes we saw were The Little Mermaid, a phoenix, Jessica and Mary from The Babysitters Club and Where’s Wally.

K-2 REPORT During Maths this fortnight, K-2 have been participating in a lot of hands-on learning activities. We really enjoyed using the balance scales to explore and compare the mass of different objects around our classroom. The following topic was multiplication, where we created equals groups using counters, and were also able to draw our own equal groups.

PRESENTATION DAY 2020

This year, a Presentation Day assembly will be held at school on Wednesday 9 November at 9.30am. In line with current COVID-19 recommendations it will be a closed event without special guests and visitors, however we will ensure that all photos and video footage of the assembly will be made available to all families after the event. This assembly will form the main part of our end of year celebrations with some fun activities planned for the last week of term.

Our Recess Buy-Up recipients for:

Week 5 were Jasmine (K-2) and Tobie (3-6).

Week 6 were Jeremy (K-2) and Josh (3-6).

LEADERSHIP ROLES FOR 2021

Our year 5 students will have an opportunity to deliver a speech for the leadership roles for 2021. Your child will be requested to make a speech about why they would be suitable for a leadership role in 2021. The speech should give details about themselves and their involvement in the school, but not about things that they cannot deliver, for example giving out lollies to students every day. The speech should be no longer than 2 minutes. This will be held on Thursday 3rd of December, 2020.
