What is Respect ?

Respect involves taking someone's feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences into consideration, acknowledging them, taking them seriously, recognising their individuality and giving them value.

Brooksby Melton College wants to help students and staff understand and celebrate diversity by creating a culture of inclusivity, where all are valued. It will do this through a campaign known as:

Campaign Aims

Raising the profile of ‘Respect for All’ with students and staff across the college.

Embedding respect in a consistent manner across all areas of provision.

In an area where diversity is limited, improving the understanding of ‘Respect for All’ within the community.

Campaign Strategy To deliver a structured group tutorial programme that promotes respect, diversity and inclusion.

To embed Respect for All within the college curriculum and showcase student projects that promote Respect for All. To carry out other cross college campaigns that will support the Respect for All agenda.

Group Task 2

1. Students divide into groups 2. Each group picks person to chair discussions3. Chair announces topic for discussion4. Group discuss their topic and record their ideas5. Groups move to another table - Chair stays 6. Chair recaps what last group discussed, group adds

their ideas to record.

Respect for All in Curriculum Areas

By Easter 2012, each curriculum area will be expected to showcase student projects on what respect means to them. This could either be a short film or video, poster, song, dance or theatre. Examples might include:

•Drama production on prejudice and bullying.•Design project to increase understanding of a disability.•Video on learning about other communities.
