Individuals requesting this guide typically have two issues – a dental problem that cannot be ignored combined with scarce financial resources. The providers listed in this directory care about you and your situation, and they do all they can (given limited resources) to meet the tremendous need for free and low-cost dental services throughout Oklahoma. There are two types of clinics/programs listed – free and low-cost. If you have some financial means, the nonprofit low-cost clinics provide dental services at lower than average or sliding scale fees and the waiting period for an appointment is short. Free clinics and programs provide services at no cost and are made possible by volunteer dental professionals and support staff. As you can well imagine, the demand for these services is great, but the supply of volunteers is limited. Patience and perseverance are keys to receiving care, because most have long waiting periods for restorative services (such as dentures and fillings). However, every effort is made to provide timely care to those in pain and at risk for infection. Calling more than one organization and becoming familiar with their processes will increase your likelihood for treatment.

We sincerely hope this directory helps you find the benevolent dental care you need.

Other options available for those in need Did you know that SoonerCare covers all routine and diagnostic dental costs for qualifying Oklahoma children? For information, see the SoonerCare listing in the Statewide section of this guide.

Spring 2013Foundation News from Delta Dental of Oklahoma

Resource for Care Summit:Save the Date!

The Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation’s Resource for Dental Care Summit will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Oklahoma City. See page two for more information.

ODF, Delta Dental Join Forces to Advance Mobile Dentistry MobileSmiles Oklahoma – formerly known as the ODF Mobile Dental Care Program – is now a partnership program of the Oklahoma Dental Foundation (ODF) and the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation (DDOK-OHF). ODF contributes its greatest resource – volunteer dental professionals, without whom the program would have only a fraction of its reach. DDOK-OHF creates stability by providing a bedrock of funding, adding almost $1 million over the next four years to the $940,000 it has already granted to the mobile program since its inception in 2006. “The new partnership fortifies the program’s ability to eliminate barriers to oral health care in Oklahoma by combining the strengths and experience of our two foundations,” said Dr. Mitchell Kramer, DDOK-OHF chairman. The staff and leadership of both organizations will work together to make MobileSmiles Oklahoma the premier volunteer-driven mobile dental program in the nation. The partnership was announced at a special launch ceremony February 19 at Delta Dental of Oklahoma, at which the exterior wrap of the brand, new Mobile Unit #2 was unveiled. Now, with two state-of-the-art mobile dental units, the program has tremendous capacity and potential to impact the oral health of Oklahomans and is in need of more volunteers. For details, please visit www.MobileSmilesOK.org.

OU President David Boren (right) presented Delta Dental CEO John Gladden with an artist’s rendering of the new College of

Dentistry Comprehensive Care Center as a token of appreciation during a ceremony at the College of Dentistry Feb. 15.

University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced recently that Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation has made the largest single gift ever to the OU College of Dentistry – a $3.2 million lead gift toward the renovation of the college’s building. “The entire University is deeply grateful for the exceptional gifts by Delta Dental of Oklahoma to the College of Dentistry,” said OU President David L. Boren. “It is truly a transformative gift which will help keep our college among the very best in the nation.” The gift is part of the $20 million Legacy Project capital campaign, the largest private fundraising effort in the college’s history, to create a state-of-the-art facility to train tomorrow’s dental professionals. The Delta Dental gift increases to $9.6 million the funding raised to date toward the first phase of renovating the dentistry building. “Delta Dental has proudly supported our state’s College of Dentistry for more than a decade,” said John Gladden, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Oklahoma. “This gift – which is the largest in our history and will be disbursed over a 10-year period – is both an endorsement of the quality of education provided by the OU College of Dentistry, as well as support of new technologies and the teamwork approach for better oral care in the future.” The College of Dentistry Building on Stonewall Avenue in Oklahoma City, has been home to OU’s dentistry students, faculty and staff since 1976. During that time, only minor renovations and technology upgrades have been made to the facility. “These significant renovations will ensure the college remains competitive with other national dental schools in technology and contribute to further enhancing the overall quality of oral health care in this region,” said Stephen K. Young, DDS, dean of the OU College of Dentistry.

Volunteer registration opens in October.

Resource for Dental Care Summit & OCCA Conference Combine Efforts

If your organization addresses the dental needs of Oklahoma’s vulnerable populations, mark your calendar for our Resource for Dental Care Summit luncheon, to be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Oklahoma City. This biennial event is an opportunity for Oklahoma’s community of benevolent dentistry to come together, learn from one another’s experiences, and multiply the results of your efforts. We will also recognize our grantee organizations. This year, we are conducting our Summit luncheon on the same day and in the same location as the Oklahoma Charitable Clinic Association state conference to maximize efficiency. We encourage you to consider attending both of these essential events. For more information, visit www.okcharitableclinics.org.
