Activities5 - 8 September 2013 - Legian Beach FestivalThe Festival offers many different activities such as Traditional dances

and music from many parts of Indonesia including Bali, Daily Parade &

professional Barong Performance at 5 pm, live musics, Indonesian and

International culinaries, fun bike, Surfing tuition & competitions,

Stand-up paddle exhibition, Painting Competition, Miss Legian Beach

Festival 2013 Competition, Fashion shows, Stalls with a great variety of

clothes, crafts, souvenirs, and many activities for children.

The aim of the event is for visitors to discover and learn about Indonesian

culture. The activities are well thought out and reflect Indonesia’s natural

wealth and the diversity of its cultural tradition.

Bali is identical with Barong Dance, which is one of the famous storytelling

dances in Bali. Barong Dance is also a classic way to describe the fight

between Dharma (good) and Adharma (evil).

The story of Barong begins in the tenth century when Rangda was

condemned by her husband because she practiced black magic. Rangda is

the mother of the king of Bali named King Erlangga. After she became a

widow, she was really upset and summoned all the evil spirits in the jungle.

The Leak (human that doing the black magic) and the demons came and

chased after King Erlangga and spread negative influence in the kingdom.

A fierce battle occurred but the black magic from Rangda and her soldiers

were too strong. She cast a spell that made all the King Erlangga's soldiers

wanted to kill them self by stubbing their own chest with the dagger.

Barong came and cast the spell that make the soldier's body resist to sharp

objects.

End of the story, Barong won and the kingdom back to normal; away from

the negative influence of Rangda. That’s why Rangda and Barong can not

separated from Balinese life as the base of the manners and customs of

their life which make them believe; Dharma (good) always win against

Adharma (badness or evil).
