For larger flow rates, contact Res-Kem todetermine whether larger or multiple units would be appropriate.
Economical and efficient, Res-Kem Condensate Polishers can beequipped for manual, semi-automatic or full-automatic operation.Regardless of configuration, only limited technical expertise isrequired for operation. Res-Kem Condensate Polishers will integrateinto a complete water treatment system without expensive customfield engineering and programming.
Model CP48375 gpm unit
Why Treat CondensateThe power industry operates in an environment of increasingly stringentboiler feed water requirements. Couple this with exploding energy costsand one finds boiler blow down to be the least desirable way of maintainingproper boiler water quality.
As a cost effective alternative to boiler blow down one needs to look nofurther than simple sodium cycle condensate polishing. Its the smartchoice when looking for a means to control corrosion transport and the illeffects of condenser in-leakage. Particularly pronounced are the operatingsavings realized relative to chemical and energy consumption. Relying onproven ion exchange technology condensate polishers are also simple tooperate and maintain.
Let Res-Kem work up the actual savings available by polishing your dirtycondensate. The payback is both swift and dramatic.

Dual 36 Diameter Dealkalizer System with OptionalPVC Diaphragm Valves and Piping
Why use an Industrial Water Dealkalizer?Reduce Blowdown - High alkalinity promotes boiler foaming and carryoverand causes high amounts of boiler blowoff. A dealkalizer can increase thecycles of concentrations, reducing blowdown and lowering operating costs.
Reduce Chemical Use Reducing blowdown by dealkalization keeps thewater treatment chemicals in the boiler longer, thus minimizing the amountof chemicals required for efficient, non-corrosive operation.
Reduce Return Line Corrosion Carbonate and bicarbonate alkalinitiesare decomposed by heat in boiler water, releasing CO2 into the steam.CO2 combines with the condensed steam in process equipment and returnlines to form carbonic acid, H2CO3. This lowers the pH of the condensatereturns and results in corrosive attack on the equipment and piping.
Reduce Chemical Contamination Pharmaceutical, food, dairy, andbeverage plants are not permitted to use the amount of chemicals requiredto properly treat

Res-Kem pre-designed modular ultrapure water systems to matchyour water requirements to available water treatment technologies.Using a simple water treatment design and only the equipment youneed, a series of modules can be joined together to achieve therequired water quality for your process or industry. Res-Kem tookthis path because every water source is different and the requiredwater quality depends upon the product being manufactured and theindustry being served.
Variety of Standard SizesUsed in conjunction with portable exchange DI systems, thestandard recirculation loop flows of up to 50 gpm and resistivity of18+ Meg-ohm can be achieved. With a custom design, higher flowsystems are available. Res-Kem Zeo-Tech Modular Ultrapure WaterSystems are ideal for laboratory, electronic, pharmaceutical, andmany other commercial applications. Regeneration of the exchangetanks is available through our sister company, General WaterServices.
Economical and efficient, Res-Kem Zeo-Tech Modular UPWSystems can be equipped for semi-automatic or full-automaticoperation. Regardless of the configuration, only limited technicalexpertise is required for operation. Res-Kem Zeo-Tech ModularUPW Systems will integrate into a complete water treatment systemwithout expensive custom field engineering and programming.
Recirculation Loop Repressurization and Treatment Module
Why use an Ultra Pure Water System?Ultra pure water treatment is required in many industries, applications, andprocesses. Res-Kem offers a series of pre-assembled, modular systemsfor the production of a continuous supply of high purity deionized water. These pre-packaged ultra high purity water systems combine the operationof several water purification processes within each skid mounted assembly.Among the many applications for ultra pure water are:
Nanotechnology products Pharmaceutical Plants Laboratories Electronic Products Semiconductor Fabrication Alloy metal fabrication Medical Device Production Aerospace

MODULAR ULTRAPURE WATER SYSTEMS
Prefiltration Module
All systems require a filter to treat all of the water entering the water treatment system. Res-Kem selectedtwo options for prefiltration, cartridge filtration and multi-media filtration. A prefilter will remove any largesuspended particles and solids that can damage downstream equipment. A cartridge prefilter is generallythe lowest installed capital cost, but the operating cost can be very high if there is poor quality inlet water.A multi-media filter has a slightly higher capital cost, but virtually no operating costs. The system simplybackwashes on an as-needed basis.
Water Softener Module
A water softener should be installed when the inlet water hardness is greater than 50ppm or 3 grains/gallon. The industrial water softener is particularly important in systemswith a Reverse Osmosis, RO, system. Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, and Iron canprecipitate within the flow passages of the RO membrane. A water softener will reducedowntime required for membrane cleaning, increase membrane life, and virtuallyeliminate unplanned system shutdowns.
Two configurations are used. When continuous flow is required, a dual tank softener will be required. Ifyour plant operates 1-2 shifts per day, a properly sized, single tank softener is fine.
Activated Carbon Filtration Module
If your system has an RO and is on city water, an activated carbon filter is required toremove the chlorine or chloramine used to protect the population from harmful bacteria. If you do not remove the chlorine or chloramine, the life of your RO will be severelyshortened. Depending upon the level of either oxidant, a noticeable degradation in ROmembrane rejection will happen in as soon as a few months. Even if your water doesnot have chlorine or chloramine, carbon filtration is still highly recommended to removeorganics in the feed water which can foul the membranes.
Two carbon filtration modules are offered by Res-Kem. The simplest option is to use a carbon exchangeservice like our sister company General Water Services provides in the mid-Atlantic region. The otherchoice is to install a simple backwashable activated carbon filter. The backwashing step will increase thelife of the carbon by removing suspended material from the top of the bed where it may accumulate. Thetradeoff between the two options is the exchange carbon involves a smaller capital investment, but ahigher operating expense. The backwashable activated carbon system has a nominally higher capitalcost requires a drain line connection, and carbon replacement every 2-4 years.
Reverse Osmosis System Module
The heart of a Res-Kem modular water treatment system is the RO system. The ROsystem removes 95 - 98% of the feedwater ions. Since an RO membrane acts as abarrier, particles and bacteria will be removed. While an RO is a great tool to produceconsistently high quality water, it is particularly susceptible to foulants and oxidants. Toreduce the potential for the damage, Res-Kem has the pretreatment modules offiltration, softener, and/or carbon filtration described above.
An RO system performs best and most efficiently when it operates nearly continuously. Also, after an RO system, a storage tank is highly recommended. The level in this tankwill turn on and off the RO system.

MODULAR ULTRAPURE WATER SYSTEMS
The standard RO systems have between 1 and 6 RO membranes. These systems operate at a recoveryof 95% and higher depending upon the inlet water quality. To keep the RO system at or near continuousoperation, the number of elements should be tailored to the typical water demand downstream of the ROsystem.
Post RO Demineralization Module
As the water quality requirements increase, a deionization process should be added to the RO permeateline before the water enters the RO/Recirculation loop storage tank. Doing this will increase the "makeup"water resistivity and quality. The deionization process used is called exchange deionization. A service DItank provider, like General Water, will deliver regenerated mixed bed resin in pressure vessels or tanks, connect the tanks into the water treatment system, and remove the used or exhausted tanks of resin. After the tanks are brought back to the service company, the resins are recycled by regenerating it in aregeneration facility.
RO/Recirculation Loop Storage Tank Module
Almost without exception, a properly designed recirculation loop andstorage tank will substantially improve the operation and reduce thecapital cost of the entire treatment system. A storage tank andrecirculation loop pump will easily handle rapid and large surges inwater demand. As stated above, an RO is designed for relativelyconstant flow rate. Without a tank, the only option is to size the RO,and all equipment ahead of it, for the instantaneous demand.
For example, if the instantaneous flow rate of your process is five times greater than the average flowrate, your prefiltration, softener, carbon filter, and RO will all have to be about four times larger thanequipment sized for the lower, average flow rate. Res-Kem finds the capital expenditure will bedramatically higher when you have to upsize the equipment versus adding the cost of a tank.
Distribution Loop Module
The final module of the of the water treatment system is the repressurization and finaltreatment before the water enters the recirculation loop. This module includes therecirculation loop pump, two service DI mixed beds tanks in series, an ultraviolet unit, and a final filter. A resistivity monitor and sample ports insure the correct water qualityis going to your manufacturing process.
Using all of the treatment modules will achieve the highest water quality. For lesscritical water quality requirements, fewer modules will be necessary to achieve thewater quality for your process.

Fully automatic, brass constructed, multi-port valves withadjustable regeneration cycles control Res-Kem FT-SeriesSofteners.
Res-Kem FT Softeners are designed to provide continuous softwater 24 hours per day for dual units. Single units are a cost-effective way to provide soft water where demand is intermittent. For either design, the only operator attention needed is to put salt inthe brine tank.
Economical and efficient, the heart of the Res-Kem FT-Series WaterSoftener is the Fleck 2750, 2850, and 2900, all brass control valve. With a meter initiated, twin tank alternating design, one tank is inservice while the second is held in stand-by. These rugged controlvalves provide a low maintenance, high flow rate, and qualitysystem able to meet the most demanding needs.
Why use a Water Softener?
Calcium and magnesium are hardscale forming minerals that build up onpiping, heat exchangers, waterheaters, boilers, and any steamequipment. This buildup results incostly repairs, increased energyconsumption, plugged heatexchangers and boiler tubes. Also, hardness greatly reduces the servicelife of linens, clothing, appliances, andplumbing fixtures.

Res-Kem RO systems are engineered with flexibility in mind. Sinceevery water treatment plant is different, a simple method to connectand control an RO system must be part of the design. Res-Kem ROsystems will integrate into a complete water treatment systemwithout expensive custom field engineering and programming.
Often, RO systems are merely connected between two differentpieces of existing equipment and expected to function seamlessly. There are so many different pieces of equipment that can be beforeand after an RO system. Res-Kem RO systems are designed tointeroperate with properly equipped pretreatment filters andsofteners, booster pumps, break tank pumps, chemical feed, pHORP, bypass valves, auxiliary makeup valves, level control, distribution pumps, portable exchange DI bank switching, rinse up,resistivity cells, and controls.
Model RC4-5-556 gpm (8,640 GPD) unit
These devices easily plug into the main panel. Users can selectsystem devices and options via simple touch screen entries. Thedesign eliminates the need for many stand-alone electrical panelsfor components like pH, ORP, and resistivity instruments. Purchaseonly the cells you need and plug in. Also, costly control panels canbe eliminated from pretreatment softeners, filters, and pump control.

RT40-F Resin Trap
A resin trap is a simple, inexpensive protective sieving device toinsure the ion exchange resin or other filtration media does notleave the water treatment equipment where it belongs, and traveldownstream where it doesnt belong. Install a resin trap. Likeinsurance, do not wait until catastrophe strikes to see the value.
Why You Need a Resin TrapMany water treatment processes use small granular, plastic, powdered, pelletized and/or crystalline media in a pressure vessel.Over the years, complex screens, slotted pipes, perforated plates, molded devices, etc. have been engineered to keep the media inthe vessel. Through corrosion, chemical attack, thermal damage, rapid flow changes, system age and/or water hammer, thesedistribution systems will be damaged.
When the distribution systems are damaged, the ion exchange resinor other media will get into the water distribution systemcontaminating and/or destroying downstream RO membranes, expensive membrane filters, pumps, tanks, piping, processes andany product touched by this contaminated water.
What Is A Resin Trap?A resin trap, designed and fabricated by Res-Kem, is a very simplesieving device using a stainless steel wedge-wire screen. The slotsare small enough to retain upstream ion exchange resins or otherfiltration media. The number and size of the openings are designedto keep the pressure drop to a P=2 psi at the rated flow rate. A clear sleeve will visually indicate whether there is an upstreamproblem. A small ball valve allows for recycling of resin or mediaafter the problem has been repaired.
Since the slots in the wedge wire are 0.010 inches, 254 microns, aresin trap protects, but does not replace, downstream cartridgefilters, bag filters, membrane filters, etc. which generally have amuch lower micron rating.
Where Should You Install a Resin Trap?A resin trap should be installed in the product water line of mostresin and media based water treatment equipment like:
Softeners Dealkalizers Condensate PolishersDemineralizers Carbon Filters Sand FiltersPortable DI Tanks Greensand Filters Multi-Media Filters
A resin trap should be considered in the backwash lines of most ionexchange and carbon systems because temperature related flowchanges can cause these expensive materials to be sent down thedrain.
