During this time, additional rigorous cleaning and hygiene protocols such as washing of hands, fre- quent sanitization, fumigation of working places, toilets, toll booths, offices, ambulances, route pa- trolling vehicles throughout our projects were im- plemented. Further, we started practicing supple- mentary safety precautions including scattering of shift’s, social distancing, daily temperature checks and getting RT-PCR test of our employees as and when required to protect our employees. We pro- vided Corona – Kawach to all our employees and their families. Corona Kawach is a COVID-19 spe- cific insurance covering the costs not covered under regular medical policies. Several awareness sessions on COVID – 19 SOP, Guidelines, Yoga & Wellbeing were conducted. SPV employees were provided immunity boosters such as Chyawanprash and Arsenic – 30. Due to imple- mentation of various responsive measures to miti- gate risks and threats towards employee’s health and safety, SPVs have witnessed small number of COVID 19 cases amongst its employees. In JPEPL, though at one time 34 employees were infected, they were all declared negative in less than a week. Maintaining business continuity with limited avail- able resources in high risk period has been a test of resilience for our site employees. No doubt, SPV teams have come out as a winner in this challenging time. We salute their resilience, courage and solidar- ity. CEO and General Managers visited sites during September and October to connect with site teams and to convey organisation’s appreciation of their work in this tough time. Farewell Function of Narayanan Subramanian F are well of Mr. Narayanan Subramanian was organised on 29th October 2020 at Grand Salon Opera, Sofitel Hotel, BKC. Narayanan was one of initial employees of HC 1 and was responsible for take-over of road assets for India Infrastructure Fund. Also, he provided an excellent O&M coverage over the assets. His decision to quit was indeed considered a big loss both by leadership (both of HC 1 and GIP) as well as other employees. A large contingent of about 20 people physically attended the farewell while many others joined it through zoom link. Many of us shared the moments of togetherness such as sharing of dollar a day lunch with CEO, travelling with Nari, playing chess as part of sports day and many other personal moments were shared. All present beheld his earthy humour, simplicity and dedication to team in awe and respect. Project Managers related to him as a friend, mentor, guide with whom they could confide. In the end, Narayanan spoke about his journey with HC 1 and that he would behold the memories of HC 1 while he moves on. All at HC 1 and GIP wished him well for new chapter of his career and life. We also, convey our gratitude for developing the organisation and look forward to remain in touch forever in future. Neeraj Sanghi, CEO, HC 1 visited sites during September – October 2020. GEPL. RESILIENCE OF OUR SPV’S DURING COVID -19 CHALLENGES

Our site people are akin to COVID warriors. Though it was far from business as usual, employees of our SPV stoically manned the

toll plaza and toll offices amongst the great stress and uncertainty due to pandemic. Teams at site fol-lowed COVID – 19 SOP and guidelines, underwent the trainings and took all precautions to keep them out of harm’s way. Flu Manager’s at site and Head Office helped not only in an efficient reporting but also to monitoring closely and continuously the situation on ground and arranged the support needed. During this time, additional rigorous cleaning and hygiene protocols such as washing of hands, fre-quent sanitization, fumigation of working places,

toilets, toll booths, offices, ambulances, route pa-trolling vehicles throughout our projects were im-plemented. Further, we started practicing supple-mentary safety precautions including scattering of shift’s, social distancing, daily temperature checks and getting RT-PCR test of our employees as and when required to protect our employees. We pro-vided Corona – Kawach to all our employees and their families. Corona Kawach is a COVID-19 spe-cific insurance covering the costs not covered under regular medical policies. Several awareness sessions on COVID – 19 SOP, Guidelines, Yoga & Wellbeing were conducted. SPV employees were provided immunity boosters such as Chyawanprash and Arsenic – 30. Due to imple-

mentation of various responsive measures to miti-gate risks and threats towards employee’s health and safety, SPVs have witnessed small number of COVID 19 cases amongst its employees. In JPEPL, though at one time 34 employees were infected, they were all declared negative in less than a week. Vol. 20 December 2020

Bargaining is typically a win/loose phenomenon where one party will always be slightly unhappy than other. Only question is how slightly is that slightly. While 90% or so transactions are meant to be solved by

bargaining, but we deploy bargaining as a means to solution even where negotiation could lead to more value added solution. Bargaining essentially means haggling process over the single parameter usually cost, while Negotiation focusses on differentiated requirements of negotiators. For example, position (which is stated) could differ from interest (which is underlying and invisible). A good negotiator would unearth the interest of the

counterparty and weave the same in the negotiation skill-fully. Neeraj highlighted many transactions in road sector where bargaining is the order of the day but a little change of perspective could bring more strategic and value added results. Successful negotiation needs preparation to have a wider perspective where long term, qualitative factors could be incorporated in discussions. During the webinar various polls were conducted where the attendees were asked their view regarding negotiation style, outcome of negotiation, etc. Webinar was appreciated by the 60 participants who attended it.
