Job Title and type of PositionPerth Hindu Temple is currently looking to hire a Residential Hindu Priest on a Full-Time 24 month contract (Fixed-Term).

IndividualTo contribute to the Temple’s growth through the quality service, ensuring to serve the spiritual needs of the devotees and to work with Management Committee, Admin staff and Devotees, the minimum criteria to qualify is listed as below:

Education/Training

1. Formal Vedic and Agamic qualification, preferably from an established Priests’ Training Institution (Veda Padasalai).

2. Good understanding of Hindu principles, practices and philosophies.3. Hands-on training in conducting Temple poojas.

Experience (3years + Preferred)

1. Conduct of daily and special abishekams and poojas in a Temple.2. Conduct of hawans for the various Deities.3. Conduct of poojas and havans at devotees’ homes or offices4. Participation in consecration ceremonies.5. Alangaram of Deities. (Alankara Shiromani preferred).6. Preparation of Neivethium (food offerings) for Deities.

Language SkillsTo serve our multicultural and multilingual society language skills would be very handy.

1. Demonstrated ability to read and speak English.2. Demonstrated ability to read and chant Sanskrit.3. Demonstrated ability to converse in at least one other Indian language (Tamil,

Hindi, etc.)

We would like our priests to have the ability teach Sanskrit to children and explain the religious slokas in English for the devotees benefit.

Personal Characteristics and Inter-personal skills

1. Ability to relate to the diverse range of devotees of the Temple.2. Ability to manage and respond to requests and feedback from Management and

devotees.3. Ability to carry out his duties independently and as a member of a team.4. Ability to adopt and manage Hindu religious practices in Western culture society.

Individual

1. Applicant should be of exemplary character befitting the position of Residential Hindu Priest.

2. Applicant should have past experience as described above and be friendly to devotees.

3. Should be a Vegetarian and abstain from alcohol, tobacco, etc.
