FOREWORD
This bulletin reports the results of a survey of residential fuelwood con-sumption and production in Wisconsin for a 1-year period encompassingthe 1993/1994 heating season. Topics examined include the geographicdistribution of residential fuelwood consumption and production within theState; the species of trees used for residential fuelwood; the types of wood-burning facilities used; the reasons for burning fuelwood; and the land,ownership, and tree classes from which fuelwood was produced. Suchdetailed information is necessary for intelligent planning and decisionmaking in wood procurement, forest resource management, forest industrydevelopment, and forest research.
Special thanks are given to the Wisconsin households and loggers whosupplied information for this survey. Their cooperation is greatly appreci-ated.

In this bulletin, consumption refers to the volume of fuelwood burned byWisconsin's households, regardless of the source of the fuelwood (round-wood, wood residues from primary or secondary manufacturing, scrap orwaste wood products, etc.). Production refers only to the volume of round-wood harvested to supply Wisconsin's wood-burning households. Thisreport does not include information about harvesting for industrialfuelwood. Such information is included in reports covering wood use byprimary processing plants.
