Be sure to measure precisely because an inch discrepancy will likely result in the new frame not fitting. GSS-Doors will always shrink the measurements by a few millimeters to ensure that our frame fits into the structural opening and any gaps will be hidden using trim.

18. DOOR OPENING VS. ROUGH OPENING

The rough wall opening should be 5.5” wider and 2.5” higher than the desired door opening. Note: a 0.5”-0.75” gap is required on all sides in order to install the frame.

A. Measure two horizontal cross sections from the outside edges of the frame (one in the tophalf of the door and one in the bottom half)

B. Measure two vertical cross sections from the top of the frame to floor levelC. Measure the thickness of the wall (we will customize the thickness of the frame)

16. HANDLES AND KNOBSRefer to the hardware catalogue or specify the finish and the type (lever handle, knob, etc.) for the internal and external sides of the door. Handles can easily be replaced if an exact match is required. 5/16” or 8mm spindle.

17. MEASURING THE DOORAll Embassy & Fortress doors come as a pre-hung set which includes the door leaf and frame. When taking measurements of an existing door you must always include the frame in the measurements so that we know the size of the rough opening. Note: when taking dimensions on a construction site, always find out what the finished floor height will be.

Threshold /Automatic Door Bottom

The default threshold option is mat stainless steel. On external doors, the threshold is slopped to direct rainwater away from the door and a rain nose can also be added (pictured below). On internal doors, the threshold is flat. On internal doors where a threshold is not suitable (such as office doors) we install a UL-rated auto-matic door bottom that drops down when the door is closed.
