Typed Up notes from Design Consultation 14th May 2011 Langham (Junc of Langham/Waldeck and Western Breakpoint on Langham): -Existing trees need to be marked in a drawing and then any new trees positioned based on visibility. -Please can we have a Streetcar location on Waldeck Rd? It would help activate that dead space. -A couple of trees on Waldeck Rd would soften this tough empty space. -The corner (of Langham and Waldeck) is likely to get flooded during heavy rainfall and the drainage needs to be planned accordingly so that the pavements and properties nearby don’t get flooded. -Please address lighting issues at the Langham/Waldeck Junction. -Where is cycle lane through raised table? Langham (Entry treatment at Belmont Rd and Eastern Breakpoint on Langham) -Stanmore and Langham junction - cars go fast here. -What about delivery vans (John Lewis etc) are there other routes? -Agree (above) this is a real issue. -Langham and Belmont, please can we remove ugly railings? -Can we have an iron gateway sign? -Make tiled area gateways a shape (circle) something different so it is noticed as a community area (reflective blocks etc). -Agree (above) -Use the semi-circle idea of blocks/lights in the road ie/ Boundary road idea. - Need a crossing point at the Downhills/Mannock junction?- Is the Downhills/Mannock junction still too wide to cross with kids on foot? Do we need a

dark grey crossing carpet?- This (Mannock/Downhills junction) will be a huge help to people with kids going to school. - Can we have variation in colour at junction to emphasise crossing place?- Would like an extra pinch point between Belmont Rec and junction with Mannock.- Will the junction slow the traffic enough?- Zebra crossing may be needed?- More trees.- I dislike speed ramps - they damage cars and increase pollution and noise. I’d prefer

road narrowing. - Improve park entrance, including benches.- What is the height of the raised table?

- More explicit right of way for pedestrians at the junction/more interesting.

Mannock Rd (Jnc w/ Boundary):

- Circle is a good and different design.

Langham Parade:

- I would prefer a bolder bigger design on the road, even checkerboard would be more fun. - Black/red brick on the edge? - Can we have more cycle racks in this area ie/ by the cafe?- Nice idea- Retain existing cobbles - budget to further cobble.- Agree, I like existing cobbles.- Also agree, please use existing cobbles.- Can we have Boris Bikes around here (perhaps outside minicab office?)- Where are the bollards and balls for sitting?- Remove existing bollards from outside the cafe (or better design if they have to be there).- Single thing that would improve this area would be restricting parking.- Remove clutter (bins/advertising etc) outside convenience shop.- Maybe some benches?- Introduce “gateway” to threshold to define boundary with tube zone.- Paint cable end of Langham Parade above ‘House of Beauty’ as it spoils arrival vista.- Area entrance name (illustrated iron archway) in “heart” done in iron letters would make

this area special.- Suggest photos of our area to be included in this design session as well as drawings.- Can we clad the shoddy illegal wall on the right (belonging to the newsagents) in brick or

wood?

Carlingford Rd (breakpoint, Junc w/ Waldeck, gateway):

- Carlingford breakpoint (nr Crescent) please can we move this nearer to Green Lanes end to form a gateway? It could be past the bus garage entrance. This is a key entrance to the district. Otherwise cars will continue to zoom round into crescent and the tube. It is a nightmare corner to cross on foot or when driving. - Cycling over raised table can be difficult/dangerous. Included a channelled cycle lane?

Raised table not too high to cause vehicle damage at low speed. - The stretch of Carlingford twoards the bus garage needs more trees.- Breakpoint on Carlingford should further down Carlingford.- Design of bollards to look attractive (ie/ Gormley)- Road pattern surface looks a bit dull. Larger format pattern - be more adventurous!- Gateway treatments make sense but could be a bit “wilder” - eg. massive planters!!- I love it- Loss of parking places is too high- There is already no parking at 18-28 Carlingford- Should this be a raised table (entrance).- The extra trees look pretty on the plans but what happens when (if) they mature? Some

of the trees in the neighbourhood are a bit of a problem. - Must have a gateway to Carlingford by bus garage.

Knuckle:- Surely dips etc in the green space will restrict play - ie/ ball games etc.

- Can the substation be removed?- Do we need the bumpy grass? Can we emphasise railway past?- Can anything be done to improve the look of the very ugly sub station?- Does the green space need a wall around it?- Is there any scope to make the surface more attractive - put paving here too? Or do

something more radical as its closed to traffic.- Railway tracks in the path reinforce the history of the space?- The plan for this area could be much more adventurous ie/ art features, benches? I defi-

nitely support covering up the substation fence somehow as it is very unsightly and will put people off using the grass.- Was the wall meant to be railway sleepers? - More interesting and more imagination.

Knuckle (Alley from Langham Place to Langham Rd):

- Where are trees, street art, and furniture?- Accident here on thursday - bike crash w/ car- Shut the road!!- Anti skid buff treatment?- Sculptural bollards?- Planter?- Tree?- It is dangerous and needs to be closed!- Please can we make this space more attractive? Surface treatment¿ Lighting? Plating?- What about trees instead of bollards? Silver birch?- Can houses be convinced to remove rusty barbed wire on walls?- Fly tipping is a big problem in the area. Another place is the junction of Carlingford and

Stanmore.- Closing it off and improving the lighting are brilliant - but is there any scope to make it

more attractive?- Would need more than metal cylindrical bollards to stop it being an alley of menace. - Closing it off encourages rubbish dumping.- We have fly tipping already, and we have had lots of accidents with cars.- Is emergency access an issue?- Close it off!- Rounded mirror to see if people lurking/approaching around the corner (on lamppost at

the end like on blind corners).
