RESERVOIR PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER No. 8 30 th May 2018 SCHOOL CAMP What a terrific time we all had on camp! Activities were so much fun; bush cooking, canoeing, geo-caching, trekking into the gorge, dual flying fox, kick-bike scooters and loads more fun and laughs. It’s always a bonus when the food is great too. It was very popular and plenty of it! There are some wonderful photos for you to enjoy. We have tentatively booked the same camp for 2020.

JUNE REPORTING In only four weeks our June Reporting day is upon us. How time flies. Reports will be distributed on Compass beforehand, and on Wednesday 27th June, students will not come to school for normal classes, but will attend the interviews with parents and teachers. I know we mentioned this last time, but for those who missed it, and for parents who received reports in the past, this year they will look quite different. Instead of lengthy comments about subject areas your child’s achievements and skill development will be shown using a grid in each curriculum area. You can see from the sample below that you will have a very clear picture of how your child is going.

Making an Interview Time Interviews will start in the morning and go through till approximately 7.00 in the evening. We will notify you when the interview schedule is open, and I encourage you to get onto Compass and select your own time. Haste may be important if you want to secure a suitable time – the earlier you get onto it, the more options will be available. So if you’re currently having trouble accessing Compass, please let us know so we can rectify the problem. COMPASS PASSWORDS If you have forgotten your Compass password please attempt to recover your password using the ‘Forgot Password’

option on the phone app or ‘Can’t access your account?’ option on a desktop. If you don’t receive the ‘Confirmation

Code’, please check both emails and mobiles related to the account.

If this still does not work, contact administration.

What is Jeans for Genes? Jeans for Genes is the iconic fundraising campaign of Children’s Medical Research

Institute.

Each year, Australians unite by wearing their favourite jeans and outdoing each

other with crazy denim outfits and donating money or purchasing merchandise, to

support genetic research.

Reservoir Primary students will be participating in this fundraising event on

Tuesday the 26th of June 2018. We hope that our workplace becomes a sea of

denim in a united stance against childhood disease.

Each student will be asked to donate a gold coin and dress in denim or jeans!

Every dollar raised on the day helps scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute discover

treatments and cures, to give every child the opportunity to live a long and healthy life.

So come on everybody denim up and help cure childhood disease!

Thank you

Young Leaders/ Junior School Councillors and Maria Mirasgentis.

Sizzling Starts In Group 17 we have been practising writing sizzling starts based on visual writing prompts. Here are our great writing

pieces based on this picture: Cat power - Ahmed Cookie was no ordinary cat, she was a space cat! She flew all over the planets. One day Cookie was going back to Earth but she forgot to fill enough fuel for the rocket. When the fuel ran out the rocket crashed onto a planet called Canterlot. CRASH! When she landed something was going on. A pony named Daybreaker was destroying the land! Malik Oh no Mayday! Mayday! Ah BANG! We have landed at area 51 in space. Wake up spike where are? We are in space! Beep beep oh no were under attack by aliens get your claws ready Amy’s New Planet- Angel “Don’t touch Goldy the fish Amy,” said her owner Toby. I had enough when Toby is sleeping I will make a rocket. ZZZZZZZZZ AHHHHH! What’s that noise, Amy? Did an alien come? Hello welcome to Alamana! Unspeakable gaming little cat – Ben This cat name is Unspeakable. He likes to play in a planet called Unspeakable. Today is Monday tomorrow is Tuesday. He gets to go to Unspeakable planet. ZZZ. Yeah!!! Today we get to go to Unspeakable Planet. Ezra’s really good adventure - Ramon “Mayday! Mayday!” Ramon said. “Meow” said Ezra the cat. Ramon said “There’s Bortron 7 jump!!!” Ezra and Ramon jumped out of the rocket like they were skydiving. They used their rocket boots to land carefully. Ramon did a ginormous backflip. Ezra the cat jumped on Ramon. Ramon fell slowly. Toffy’s Big Space adventure- Keerti “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! We are going to crash” I shouted. BANG BING BANG! We landed in the space station. “Wow! SOOOOOO many astronauts! It is going to be exciting,” said Toffy “Toffy!” I said to my cat. “I didn’t know you could talk!” Cookie- Isabella This is cookie the cat. She wants to go to the moon but all she can see is cookies. She loves cookies because she is a cookie cat of course. Cutie Missy- Bella Missy is a cute cat she loves to play planet games. She can even fit into my backpack. Space Cat – Henry Boom! “MEOOOOWWWWW I have always wanted to be fired out of a cannon to Zagduloopoff” said Who the cat. Sashank Mayday, mayday we are landing on the moon. BOOM! We crashed on the moon. I don’t know captain America Cat. Why we crashed on the moon! AHHHH! There is an alien over there. Japleen My cat went in a plane. She went to the moon. She has to buy a ticket to get a photo. Space Cat- Sayna One day on earth a cat called Fluttershy was walking. Then she saw an aeroplane and Fluttershy flew on to the

aeroplane. Omar The cat can’t eat mice on earth. We have to go to the cheese moon where there is lots of mice! Seeder 1 Jet Sunspot and his family comes to Earth - Sanchit Sunspot the cat purred as they got out of the Botron 7. Jet said” YAY, we have landed on earth!” The land of Equstia- Aleena Long, long ago a kitten called Katerina had a dream of going to space. On day Katerina asked her mum if she could go into. “Of course not!” cried Katerina’s mum. As soon as Katerina’s mum said that Katerina immediately ran out of the kitchen. She was in her bed crying. University Cat- Georgia Did you know I always wanted to go to university. But I can’t! University if for adults and humans. Not cats. Bye clarity. Meow. That’s my owners. As I was saying off to the moon! Cheesecakes!!! Look at the stars. Don’t get distracted Claridy. Wait a minute. Wait what does that say. I really need to get glasses. University for cats only.

SIZZLING STARTS FROM GROUP 12 Group 12 have been focussing on writing ‘Sizzling Starts’. The children have learnt that there are several different ways to write a sizzling start. Amongst these are; Intrigue (arouse curiosity), Action, Dialogue, Humour and Change. Zara: “Oh why is there a Zookeeper here? Hmmmmmm”, I continue to say. Bam!!!. The school all of a sudden transformed into a zoo. It looked so cool. Riley: I woke up startled, something was in my room. The wardrobe doors opened and it came out of my wardrobe……. I was asleep, I heard something. As I got out of bed, I did not know what was there, but it was big!! I saw big footsteps……I then asked myself “what was this?” Charli: Footsteps slowly creaked on every step of the stairs…… I look and think for a moment…. I recall cleaning the stairs yesterday and these footprints were not there. I kept going and every step I took, the foot prints kept following me. Coco: ”Dad!” I screamed. My dad is a zookeeper, so he was planning to come to our school for zoo week. “Sweety, get ready for school”, my dad yelled from across the kitchen. I then replied, “can I bring my magic wand I got from the zoo?” Otis: Bang! Crack! Fizzle! Everyone started in amazement at the zookeeper with the wand. Then Crack! Lightning struck…… Nava: I need water. I wish I could talk to someone. I wish there was a lake. I wanted to run home, but I was lost! Where do I go from here? I don’t think I can survive…… Marley: “If you are expecting me to stop, you are dreaming”, said the beast. The screams came from the village… “Aahhhh”. Acid showered over the village. “Hahahah”, said the beast. Miller: What’s that in the distance? It had red eyes, black teeth and wings. I knew what it was…… So many flames were approaching me. This armour was batching me through. I yelled out “Ahhhh, Ouch”. The fire hit me against my hand. Muizz: It was a disgusting day at the batcave. There was a recycle bin for all the stinky socks from all the crime. “Oh”, said Batman. Joker interrupted him…. “Can I finish my sentence”, said Batman. Joker replied, “no, now it’s time to throw pie on your face”. Aadi: “Hello, I’m a zookeeper, I’m thinking about going to the magic school.” I open the magic school door and the door spoke! “I need a magic wand,” I said. So I bought one and tried to turn robots into animals. Instead, I ended up turning myself into a robot. I yelled for help, but no one came. I started to wonder if I would ever be saved…….
