SUMMER SCIENCE CAMPElementary and Middle School Students: Explore space, volcanoes, ancient artifacts and mysterious creatures of the land and sea. Let science be your guide as your universe expands each week with a new theme!Camps take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday (except for the July 4th shortened week) beginning the week of June 13th, 2017. Camps are held at the South Florida Museum and Bishop Planetarium, 201 10th St. West, Bradenton, FL 34205.

2 LEVELS OFFERED FOR EACH CAMP: ELEMENTARY: FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 2-5MIDDLE SCHOOL: FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 6-8

WEEK 1 (JUNE 12 - 16): Cryptozoology - Monsters or Myths?Explore the realms of myth and zoology in the search for Skunk Ape, Bigfoot, Nessie and other “monsters of mythology.” Are these beings real, or are they figments of the imagination? We’ll use scientific study to form new conclusions based on evidence and models as we learn about each “monster.” How brave are you? Let the hunt begin!

WEEK 2 (JUNE 19 - 23): The Power of the 3 Es: Energy, Electricity and Engineering“E”mmerse yourself in the 3 Es! Explore the power of renewable energy sources while building your own models of bridges, buildings and other human- made structures. Discover the mechanics of electrical engineering with circuit board projects and experiments. The future is in your hands.

WEEK 3 (JUNE 26 - 30): Dinosaur DetectivesTake a fresh look at some of the oldest creatures on our planet. Study fossil footprints, eggs, bones and feathers. Discover the newest sciences used to model how these creatures moved, ate and lived. Recreate dino habitats as you bring extinct ecosystems back to life!

WEEK 4* (JULY 3 - 7): Stones, Bones, and Indiana JonesEver dreamed of being Indiana Jones? Grab your hat! Learn the skills and techniques used in archaeology and anthropology to unlock own knowledge of ancient civilizations. Go behind the scenes of the museum’s collection to investigate stone, bone and shell tools used by the earliest Floridians in their quest for survival!

WEEK 5 (JULY 10 - 14): Reptilemania!Unlock the fascinating world of reptiles while learning about Florida’s most dangerous reptilian residents. Explore the distinctions of body chemistry, physiology and life cycles that make these creatures so unique. Learn from local experts as you work to create models and dioramas depicting the secret lives of these majestic animals.

WEEK 6 (JULY 17-21): Space OdditiesBlack holes, quasars, cosmic rays, gravitational waves...what do they all have in common? They are all “oddballs” in cutting edge astronomy! Learn what scientists have been discovering about these space oddities as you further your understanding and push the limits of our working models. This camp will be out of this world!

*Four-day holiday week. No camp on July 4th.
