Research the rehabilitation of child soldiers.

Research the rebuilding of Sierra Leone after the civil war.

On page 195 of the book, Ishmael went to the UN in New York to speak. Choose one of the countries listed and research what was going on in that country around 1996.

QUESTIONS

You need questions in order to find answers!

Questions can be basic…you will be able to expand your questions once you begin your research.

The best process is to have about 10-15 questions before you sit down to begin the research.

Make sure to write down or save the websites where you are finding answers.

RESEARCH

Go to the internet or library (books are good too!) and starting looking for answers to your questions.

Once you start answering your questions, you might come up with other questions.

Remember to keep track of your sources (websites and books)

Once you are happy with your research, organize your thoughts. You will need 6 paragraphs (one introduction and 5 body paragraphs.)

THESIS STATEMENT

Before you sit down to write your paper, come up with one sentence that presents your argument or main thoughts on your topic. This is a thesis statement.

You will include your thesis statement in your opening paragraph. All of your research and commentary will support this thesis statement.

WRITE YOUR PAPER

Create an introductory paragraph. Introduce your topic and present your thoughts/opinions with your thesis statement

Write your body paragraphs The body paragraphs will support your thesis. The information will include the information that you found while researching, along with your commentary (thoughts) on the information.

You must use in-text citations in your paper. You must use quotations marks when directly quoting a source.

IN TEXT CITATIONS

When you quote and use someone else’s thoughts or words, you must cite it in your paper. It will look like this.

WORKS CITED PAGE/BIBLIOGRAPHY List all sources on this page.

You must use at least 3 sources.
