• Man has always been eager to explain and understand the natural phenomena to the best of his ability.
• There is reliance on empirical evidence or personal experience for scientific inquiry.
• This inquiry in due course of time became more systematic and logical.

• The first systematic and logical approach could be attributed to Aristotle and Greeks.
• This gave rise to Deductive Logic. It is a relationship between a major premise (a self evident assumption), a minor premise ( previously established by metaphysical truth or dogma, concerning a relationship), and a conclusion.

• Identification & Definition of the problem.
• Formulation of a hypothesis– a hunch, an assumption or an intelligent guess.
