Research – Islington Gazette and Website

The Islington Gazette tells us about the local area.

Looking at the front cover a third of the page is taken up by the mast head and the contents. A quarter of the page are adverts.

It is easily seen that the colour scheme for this newspaper is black, white and read.

Islington gazette is written in an old fashioned font. The red writing on the masthead is small but still stands out because it is red. It does not need to be big as everyone will know that it is the local newspaper.

There are many adverts on the front cover as they are advertising local businesses. This is where they get their money from as the newspapers do not cost a lot.

There is an advertisement for an app that the Islington Gazette has. This may be another way of getting money as the app will have to be paid for.

The contents is set out like a website which makes it easier to read and look similar to the wesibte.

The dateline and price tell us when the newspaper was issued and the cost of the newspaper.

An article about death attracts and shocks the readers and makes them buy the newspaper. There is a lot of writing which implies that it is for more educated readers.

In contrast there is a second story about something good that has happened to give the front page a balance. This is so the readers find the newspaper interesting and not all about the bad things.

Another main story is a national story but its there because it is relevant to the local area

Looking at the inside page two thirds of the page is taken up by a calendar of events happening in the area and one third on an article.

In the inside page there is information about the newspaper which can be useful for the readers.

There is also a weather section for the local are which is relevant as the newspaper is for the local area.

The calendar informs the readers about events happening in the local area. This is useful for the readers as it will be happening around their homes.

The inside page also has an article about something bad and an advert. The advert is in the same colour scheme as the front cover.

This is the website for the Islington Gazette. The website has a different colour scheme as the newspaper as the website is blue.

However the masthead is exactly the same as the newspaper with the red and black writing.

The tabs that are linked to different sections look similar to the contents in the newspaper but are different colours. This tab bar makes it easier to find stories that the readers want to read.

It has an option to register and login. This sends frequent emails to the registered people updating them about the newspaper and sends them e-editions

The search bar also makes it easier for the readers to find a particular story.

Unlike the newspaper, the website allows readers to comment on the story. It also gives an option to email and print the story.

Local businesses pay the Islington gazette to have links on the website which take them on to the company website.

It also has a link to view the e edition for the gazette.

The website allows you to do much more like enter competitions.

The website is updated frequently so it always has the latest news. This is why the first story may not be the same as the one on the news paper. This is an advantage as readers can be updated quicker.
