Abstract
Writing lab assignment #4, my main goal was to improve my writing skills with the
feedback and lessons I have learned from Professor Baldrige in mind. Summarizing the most
important topics in Chapter 8, summarizing an article from EbscoHost on Silicon Valley,
summarizing my short and long term goals and discussing my feedback I have received from of
all my writing assignments. I will also continue making improvements in my writing to reach my
desired goal, which is to obtain the best possible grade I can achieve in this class.
Topics
Research process is the most important topic in chapter 8, as it gives the structure of how
to conduct your studies, findings, along with and incorporating information you have gathered
into your written work. Having a step-by-step process to work though makes sure you do not
miss out any essential parts of your study. Identifying your audience and what questions you
have to answer will keep your readers engaged. Collecting data from different sources: print,
online, audio and video will lead to an in depth research study. Collecting data from one source
can lead to inaccuracies and be misleading. Evaluating sources makes sure the information we
collect is accurate, up-to-date and reliable. Citing the sources you have used, informs the readers
exactly where you have found information.
Primary research is valuable when carrying out your research project. The marketer has
control over what objectives they wish to benefit from the research. The research will be accurate
for the current place, time, and situation. The collector has full ownership of the information and
does not need to share it with competitors or other companies. However, it can be time
consuming and expensive.

Secondary Research is another important topic. It is easy to use, has a lower cost, and is
less time consuming. It is also accessible to a larger audience. Data and information are collected
via the internet, library, databases and government documents. Data however may be out of date
and not always appropriate to your research.
Focus groups are used to obtain a wider variety of opinions than individual surveys or
interviews. Prepared questions can benefit your research as you can guide the focus group into
bouncing ideas off one another, gathering more information for your research. Research can be
pulled together quickly and can be inexpensive.
Documenting your sources is essential when carrying out research projects, when you
gather any information you have to credit the source, informing the reader where you collected
your information, allows the reader to gain further knowledge about this topic. This is how
research continually grows and benefits society.
Article
Lee Redden, a Ph. D. student in engineering at Stanford, started Blue River Technology:
a robotic weed killer. Silicon Valley, the epicenter of innovation, emphasizes lean start-up
businesses. These are low cost versions that are shown to customers for reaction, and then
improved. The National Science Foundation, has selected 21 three- member teams and will
receive $50000 each for six months, to test if their inventions are marketable. The Valleys lean
start up model is having a positive effect influencing students, such as Harvard Business School
to start up their own companies. Mr. Reeden, recognizes an opportunity in combining computer
vision and agriculture to identify weeds and killing them.

Professional and Personal Goals
My mission for the next 2-3 years is to increase my knowledge, develop new skills, and
gain experience in marketing and sales. In my professional life, my goal is to go to Stanford
School of Entrepreneurship in California. I wish to expand my knowledge and work in California
after Graduate School. I own a website called MogulMillion.com, used for art social networking,
which I look to expand into the USA. In my personal life, within the next 2-3 years, I wish to
keep growing my knowledge about different cultures. Continue to travel and help others who are
less fortunate than I am, by raising money for charities and community service. Developing new
skills such as playing the piano, running a marathon and kickboxing are my other personal goals
for the next 2-3 years.
My objectives are to work for Market Sphere, a marketing and strategic ideas company,
Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is the location to expand a website, being the home of internet
advancement; this will create brand awareness for MogulMillion.com. My personal objectives
are to dedicate as much time as possible for others, working for companies such as the Red
Cross, and First Tee, two non-profit charities.
My operational goals are to complete Stanford School of Entrepreneurship. Increase the
marketing sales department in Market Sphere by 1.5% and get to 1000 users on
MogulMillion.com within the next 3 years. My personal goals are to run a Marathon under four
hours, play piano to grade level 6, and give back 2-5 hours a week to my selected charities.
Over the next 4-7 years my mission statement is to become financially independent. I
wish to become a business mogul, owning 5 multi-national companies, in art, property, wine,
product and service industries. Create awareness to others about giving back to help less

economic developed countries. I plan on, continuing my expansion and understanding of other
cultures, writing a book and giving lectures to schools in England.
Objective goals are to offer fun and exciting companies within the industries with
emphasis on customer service and loyalty. Making others educated and care about others who
need guidance on a larger scale by educated children to encourage them that there is more to life
than yourself and giving back is important.
My operational Goals are to own 5 properties in Charlotte offering fully furnished
accommodation to Queenss students. Expand MogulMillion.com into an art Investment
Company, working with no more than 50 clients. To produce a wine product that appeals to the
younger generation 18-25 in Europe.

When deciding my personal and professional goals I made sure just to inform the reader
with precise information. I left out all descriptive words and used key words. Comparing my
latest writing assignments from when I first started, I learnt from my reflections, less is more.
Business writing does not need to be long, but informing the reader with all the vital information.
Understanding your audience is also important factor. Using the right terminology and
knowing that you are not writing for yourself but your targeted audience. When informing my
readers about my personal and professional goals I wanted my message to be clear of what I
wanted to achieve to a global audience, I didnt use any unfamiliar words orphrases the message
has to be clear and effective to the audience. As these were my personal and professional goals
I didnt mind what the reader thought of them however because the goals I listed were

personable to me and what I wanted to achieve, if the reader disagreed or didnt like them then
that is their reaction to my goals, which I have no control of.
I may have had no control of what the reaction the readers have over my work, however
the style I write my goals can cause a reaction. So when writing my goals I made sure I was not
arrogant or modest, but this is what I wanted to achieve and this is how I was going to do it.
