A comparison of carbon emission amongdifferent types of vehicles such as, ICEvehicles, Hybrid, PHEVs and EVs, isimportant to further determine whether theuse of EVs is beneficial in terms of CO2emission. It has been estimated that by 2020,0.3 million EVs will ply on Indian roads. Thus, in future EVs will play a very importantrole in transportation system and therefore, the study of their impact on the environmentis essential.

SOLAR FAN FOR RURAL APPLICATIONS

Principal Investigator : Mr. M. Mohanraj

Co-Investigator: Mr. B. Karunamoorthy

Funding Agency: RuTAG (IITM)

Amount Sanctioned: Rs.17000/-

Objective:To design and fabricate low cost and low power domesticusage ceiling fans, using solar energy, which can be used invillage schools. The specification is that the powerrequired for the fan is under 20w.

Highlight:This project was demonstrated to R.Chidambaram,Principal scientific advisor, Government of India.

Applications:Rural school will benefit without ongoing electricity cost.

DESIGN AND AUTOMATION OF ECO- FRIENDLY PRODUCT MACHINE

Project Guide : Ms. V. Sharmila Deve

Project Students: Mr. K. Karthick, Mr. M.Mohammed Ibrahim, Mr. S. Vignesh kumar,Mr. G. Vivek

Amount Sanctioned: Rs.15000/- (IEEE –WIE)

Objective:This project aims at producing Eco-Friendly productsmade out of coir pith. The ultimate motto of this project isto motivate Rural Women development. Rural Womenmake themselves self employed by making green productsout of agricultural wastes.

Applications:This product can used to make low cost Eco friendly toys.

AUTOMATIC CONTROL FOR POTTER WHEEL

Principal Investigator : Ms. D. Rajalakshmi

Co-Investigator: Ms. M. Nirmala

Funding Agency: RuTAG (IITM)

Amount Sanctioned: Rs.113000/-

Objective:To produce low cost electrically driven three speed /twospeed potter wheel using single phase fractional HP motorwith proper gear assembly for best efficiency. As the mostof the rural based potters have single phase electricitysupply in their places, conventional industrial type SGinduction motor of single phase is used.

Applications:Pot making process with variable speed control.

DESIGN OF DUAL ROTOR COUNTER ROTATION 1 kW PMSG

Project Coordinators : Dr. Rani ThottungalDr. N. Prakash

Funding Agency: Keerthi International,CBE

Amount Sanctioned: Rs.140000/-

Objective:To produce more power, even at low wind speed condition. This system is proposed with a new wind turbine generatorSystems (WTGS).The system allows both the conductorsystem and the magnetic system to rotate independently.Hence the relative motion is equal to the speed of rotationof either of the systems to produce more power, there byproducing optimum power at very low speeds.

Highlight:The field rotor rotates in one direction while the rotor with the conductors will be rotating in the another direction. So the output voltage will get increased..

SEMI AUTOMATED DRY BANANA FIBER TWISTER

Principal Investigator : Mr. M. Mohanraj

Co-Investigator: Dr. V. Kandasamy

Funding Agency: Eco Green Unit [TNAU CBE]

Amount Sanctioned: Rs.15000/-

Objective:To design and fabricate automated banana fibre twistermachine. Banana fibre is a natural fibre. It has its ownphysical and chemical characteristics and many otherproperties that make it a fine quality fibre. This projectaims at an automation of rope making process frombanana fibre with continuous output and to overcome thedrawbacks of the older technology.

Applications:Floor mats, Cushion covers, Wall decors, Hand bags, Ecofriendly papers files and Garments
